In a recent interview on hitfix.com composer Joe Trapanese says there is still an effort to get a Tron 3, a sequel to 2010's "Tron: Legacy," greenlit.
In the interview, he says,"we're doing our best to get it off the ground." The article states he is waiting for the green light from Disney and "Legacy" director Joeseph Kosinski. A script has been in the hands of several writers since 2010, most recently with Jesse Wigutow.
Trapanese collaborated with Daft Punk on the "Tron: Legacy" soundtrack and scored the short lived, but acclaimed, animated series "Tron: Uprising." He also worked with Kosinski on last year's "Oblivion." The article states that Kosinski has "Go Like Hell," starring Tom Cruise in development as possibly his next project.
A Tron sequel has been rumored off and on since "Legacy" was released. In a Crave Online interview with Bruce Boxleitner, who has played the title role in every incarnation of the franchise, he states a belief that shooting could begin as early as by the end of this year, but that it was speculation on his part.
The only other actor who has confirmed involvement with a sequel is Garret Hedlund, who played Sam Flynn in Legacy. However his statements have not been accompanied with an official studio statement. Olivia Wilde, who played Quorra, is pregnant with her first child and is due in May. She has repeatedly expressed interest in returning to the series. Cillian Murphy, whose cameo appearance in "Legacy" was rumored to hint at a future villain has not made statements one way or another about future involvement.
