Warner Bros. Discovery Pushes Bong Joon-ho And Robert Pattinson's MICKEY 17 To January 2025

Fans waiting to see Parasite director Bong Joon-ho's highly-anticipated Mickey 17 sci-fi film will have to wait until next year as the VFX for the film reportedly need more polishing.

Mickey 17, a forthcoming science fiction drama from Bong Joon-ho, the filmmaker behind  2019 Oscar Best Picture-winner Parasite, just received a disheartening update.

After the film was taken off Warner Bros.' picture slate last month (it was initially scheduled to open in theaters this March), the film is being pushed to next year.

According to Variety, it has now been confirmed that the movie is scheduled for release on January 31, 2025, as Bong Joon-ho and his crew will require more time to finish the visual effects.

By postponing the movie until 2025, the movie will also be able to be seen in IMAX cinemas, something that would not have been feasible with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Dune: Part Two controlling nearly every specialty-format screen in a few weeks.

Filming on Mickey 17 kicked off on August 2022 and wrapped on December 2022. It is based on the critically acclaimed novel Mickey 7, written by Edward Ashton.

In addition to Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun, the film also stars  Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.

For his role, Pattinson previously teased, "It’s with Parasite director Bong Joon-ho and it’s like nothing I’ve ever done before. The movie is so crazy, it’s a completely different style of working. It’s so much talking."

MICKEY 7 (novel) Official Synopsis:
Dying isn’t any fun…but at least it’s a living.

Mickey7 is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous―even suicidal―the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal…and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.

On a fairly routine scouting mission, Mickey7 goes missing and is presumed dead. By the time he returns to the colony base, surprisingly helped back by native life, Mickey7’s fate has been sealed. There’s a new clone, Mickey8, reporting for Expendable duties. The idea of duplicate Expendables is universally loathed, and if caught, they will likely be thrown into the recycler for protein.

Mickey7 must keep his double a secret from the rest of the colony. Meanwhile, life on Niflheim is getting worse. The atmosphere is unsuitable for humans, food is in short supply, and terraforming is going poorly. The native species are growing curious about their new neighbors, and that curiosity has Commander Marshall very afraid. Ultimately, the survival of both lifeforms will come down to Mickey7.

That is, if he can just keep from dying for good.

Jokes aside I'm super excited for this movie. Also Dune has a 96% critic score on RT for those who care about the archaic review system. I'm sure the metacritic will be at least 90

@TheVisionary25 - The Host is an all-timer for me, big, funny, scary, sad family drama/comedy/rampaging monster movie.

Beyond that, I really only know his "biggest" works, Snowpiercer and Parasite. The latter is an absolute masterpiece (and a great double-feature with The Host, IMO) and the former is a helluva lot of fun.

Choosing to be optimistic here, but it's rarely a great sign when a movie is pushed to January . . .

@ClintThaHamster - I feel like there has been good stuff released in January lately but having said that , I can’t really think of any specifically right now lol

It being at the end gives me less cause for concern

Gonna be looking out for this one, Parasite was excellent if not damn near perfect.
