Shazam! the Captain Marvel movie that was originally set up at New Line before it was folded into Warner Brothers. The project has had a long and sordid writing history with William Goldman, Bryan Goluboff, Joel Cohen, Alec Sokolow, even John August taking a swipe at the script.
Captain Marvel is the story of teenager Billy Batson, who turns into the superhero when he says "Shazam!," an acronym for his god-like powers: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.
Bill Birch has been hired to write alongside Geoff Johns, a DC Studios consultant. Birch is a television actor turned writer who is currently writing "One Finger Salute" for director Peter Segal (Get Smart, The Longest Yard). Segal is also attached to direct Shazam! for Warners and DC.
