SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Director Had A "Lame" Backup Plan If A Certain Character Wasn't Available - SPOILERS

Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has revealed details of what he refers to as a "lame" backup plan if a certain DCEU cameo didn't work out...

If you haven't seen Shazam! Fury of the Gods yet, major spoilers follow.

In the first Shazam! movie, Superman shows up to visit Freddy Freeman at school, but the character is only shown from the chest down. Fans thought they were going to get another headless cameo from a fellow Justice Leaguer when we learned that "Fake Wonder Woman" was part of the film, but Gal Gadot did appear as the real Diana towards the end of the film.

After Shazam gives his life to save the city, Wonder Woman responds to a letter he sent her earlier in the movie, arriving on the scene to repair the Wizard's staff and resurrect the fallen hero.

Director David F. Sandberg has now revealed that he did have a backup plan if Gadot couldn't shoot the scene, but he wasn't particularly interested in using it!

"I don’t remember exactly how it came about, but we wanted a real cameo this time. Henry Cavill was supposed to be in the first one and that didn’t work out," he tells Total Film. "When we had her in the script, I still didn’t believe it. What happened in the first one with Cavill was when we shot the scene they said he can’t be here for the scene, we’ll shoot it with a stand-in and pick up the pieces later on. But that didn’t happen."

"On this one, it was the same thing. Oh, Gal is not going to be able to come here, shoot with a stand-in, figure out what pieces we need and pick up her pieces. I was like, ‘yeah, sure’."

If Diana wasn't going to factor in, Sandberg toyed with the idea of bringing Helen Mirren's Hespera back to take her place, but admits that it would have been a "lame" idea.

What did you guys make of Diana's cameo and the movie overall? Drop us a comment down below.

So, the article is just one paragraph, this is surprising taking in consideration the other articles filled with unnecessary text.

Let's see if they end up fixing this.

Was in the first row one night when she did a couple years of a comedy/musical show in Vegas. Sounds goofy, but it wasn't. She was GREAT.

@Forthas -

I'd like to lie, but no.

She walked down the stage line and shook hands with the 15 or so people in the front row in a full sashay. So hot & so manic. Crushed my hand. Spilling magnificent boobage to die for. My wife got the full fandango in Caesars that night.

Can I ask y'all a question? Why the F_CK has Blue Beetle not gotten any advertising when it is coming out in FIVE MONTHS? It's coming some time this year, between July and September, and yet I see "zero" marketing for it. I never heard of any so-called big movie getting NO advertisements in the same year that it is coming out.

I know more about every other big movie coming out this year than I do Blue Beetle.

@videovac - Good point and I think the teaser poster teasing the Scarab came out on Saturday, December 3rd. It has been officially 3 months since then and the movie comes out on August 18, 2023..

They got 4 months left to market it and if they don't, the film will struggle jus as how Shazam 2 did.

The fact that they are prioritizing letting a crowd of attendants during CinemaCon on April to see The Flash rather than promoting Blue Beetle is...questionable.

If they are gonna wait till May to then start the promotion then Zaslav's a frocking idiot and confirmed to be a soulless penny pincher exec if he didn't wanna spend budget to market an anticipated film that he did not axe because he was too busy scrapping Batgirl and countless other things.

Blue Beetle is supposed to give him that God forsaking revenue he wants so badly.

People just actually start pestering Gunn about it tbh, since he is now the coolest DC guy around the corner. Then again maybe he is practing some PR damage control after Ben Affleck's no-bs statements of never again wanting to direct anything DC related after Gunn said he had talks with him about working together. Seriously, the way Ben Affleck expressed himself seemed to contradict the amiccable picture Gunn sold us all.

@videovac - Love and Thunder didn’t even get a teaser trailer until about a month before it came out. No Way Home was similar, I wouldn’t worry too much!

@whatevtrev - difference was that Thor and Spider-Man don't really need a lot of marketing anymore. People will come watch them regardless.

Blue Beetle, like Shazam, does need proper marketing I think.

@videovac - Word is that WBD can only afford to market two DC movies this year. Obviously the Flash is one, which leaves Blue Beetle and Aquaman for the second.

We haven't yet seen a marketing push for either of them. I know Beetle's out a lot earlier than Aquaman, but the early word is that Aquaman 2 is worse than the first movie, so it's still possible that Blue Beetle will receive the marketing prize over Aquaman.

Could be they're just waiting until The Flash is out of the way to start marketing it.

Or it could be that they will abandon it like a lame duck. Maybe even on HBO Max instead of theaters.

Seeing Wonder Woman was good, sure.

But having her randomly saving the day was poor writing IMO.
