Well here's some very unexpected news to get you through the rest of hump day.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures has enlisted Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok) to pen the script for their second upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film, which will center around popular supporting players Black Cat and Silver Sable. His screenplay will build on an already existing draft from Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.

Their report states that the movie has been in development for quite some time and had previously been operating under the label of "secret female spinoff project." With a new writer now in place, the studio is hoping to begin meeting directors in the not-so-distant future as they are currently eyeing a fall start date for the female-led superhero movie. Matt Tolmach & Amy Pascal, who were listed as producers on The Amazing Spider-Man films, are also producing this project.

As for Venom, the report offers a small update, revealing that Sony has already begun courting several potential directors.

Additionally, THR's
Borys Kit has confirmed on Twitter that this spin-off and the Venom spin-off will not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as at this point, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige is not involved in any capacity.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Is this movie and Venom taking place inside a world with a Spider-man? Will they take place inside the same universe that doesn't have a Spider-man? Are they just standalones?

@TheUnworthyThor - I hope this and the Venom movie take place in the MCU, but enough is enough already with giving secondary characters their own film right away.

@TheUnworthyThor - Maybe its like with the first season of Supergirl, Spider-Man is clearly part of that world, but he doesnt show up or doesnt have a big role.
