SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Says The Movie Was Viewed As "The End Of A Franchise"

On the heels of those new stills, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has commented on the movie's place in the MCU, revealing that the threequel was looked at as "the end of franchise".

Tom Holland will reprise the role of Peter Parker for the sixth time in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the actor has now hinted that we may not see him suited-up as the Webhead again for quite a while following the release of the Sony Pictures sequel. In fact, his comments have led to speculation that he could be done with the role altogether!

While speaking to EW, Holland revealed that No Way Home is viewed not just as the culmination of a trilogy, but the "end of a franchise."

"I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you'd be seeing a very different version," he added. "It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it."

Is Holland thinking about hanging up the suit and moving on from Spider-Man for good? We doubt it!

We don't know what his contact situation looks like right now or the current status of the Sony/Marvel Studios deal, but it's hard to imagine he won't reprise this role in some capacity down the line. If and when he does return, many fans will be happy to hear that this take on the character will finally be allowed to grow-up and move on from a high-school setting.

What do you guys make of Holland's comments? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, we do know that Peter will go to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and ask him to cast a spell to make the world forget that he's really Spider-Man. This has disastrous consequences, as the likes of Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and other Multiverse villains are unleashed.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters this December.

@Saga - in all likelihood, yes. but it doesn't sound like a contract has been signed yet. maybe no more MCU from him for now and just cameos or full time gigs in the other spiderverse movies Sony has planned.

@Doomsday8888 - If you're not invested and don't care, how is it sad to say?

@Doomsday8888 - To me he's a whiney little kid who's trying too hard to look smart and funny. I haven't read the comics but my understanding of Spiderman in comics (as watching interviews from Stan Lee and others during Sam Raimi's trilogy), Tom Holland's Spidey is nowhere near comic books. Tobey's Spidey, on the other hand, actually was. With all the real world problems, job, paying rent, not getting the girl or not able to tell her about himself etc...

Maybe this version is TRUE to "today's" young kids, most of them are just self entitled whiney too smart of themselves and it perfectly fits and relates to this generation. Not to mention, his rich mentor was hitting on his single middle aged mature Aunt. 😣 More power to them if that really is the case 😛

@KnifeWasTooSlow - I mean I don't see what's the problem with a proven director coming back to a franchise, but whatever.

Just want to see a different team behind these movies after this one. Tom Holland has the potential to be the best live action spidey, its just weird decisions and directions that keep on holding him back imo

I have LOVED the first two movies, Homecoming being my favorite Live action Spidey and FFH being right there with SP2 on my list.

But when all said is done for this trilogy, I hope they go back to the little things of Holland's take protecting NYC. Interact with the heroes there and such until another big event film happens.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - It's been, what? Thirty-ish years? I'm still holding a grudge over what Quesidilla and the Brain Trust turned JMS's run. I'mma die and turn into a ghost that screams like a cat in heat to haunt his family line for generations.
