SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Will Be Tom Holland's Final Film Under Contract, But He Would Return "In A Heartbeat"

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has revealed that the now officially titled Spidey threequel will mark his final time suiting-up as the Webbed Wonder... while under contract, at least!

While chatting with Collider to promote Cherry, Holland confirmed that his contract is up after No Way Home, but said that he'd be more than happy to return as Peter Parker "if they want me back."

“I’ve always said to them if they want me back, I’ll be there in a heartbeat," the actor tells the site. "I’ve loved every minute of being a part of this amazing world. It’s changed my life for the better, I’m so lucky to be here. If they want me back I’ll be there, if they don’t I will walk off into the sunset a very, very happy person because it’s been an amazing journey.”

Of course, there was a very real possibly that Holland was going to be forced to walk away from the role after Far From Home when talks between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures broke down. Tom was said to have been instrumental in bringing both parties back to the table, and doesn't anticipate any similar problems in the future.

"The way I understand it is that agreement between the two studios has already happened. I don’t think that they’re going to run into the same troubles that they did as we were going into… was it Spider-Man 2? Far from Home had come out and then the whole thing happened between Sony and Marvel. I think the two studios have worked that out, and I don’t think that that will be a problem in the future. That said, I’m just the actor and I was a part of a few phone calls during that process, but I think they love working with each other, I think they found a way in which it can be beneficial for both studios, and I’m just kind of like a kid in the middle of it, between two parents during an argument (laughs)."

Holland will almost certainly sign a new contract, but No Way Home was always envisioned as the final part of a trilogy, and with Jon Watts moving on to Fantastic Four next, it could be a while before we see Spidey back on the big screen after this Christmas.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Spider-Man 2 actor Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, and TASM 2's Jamie Foxx as Electro , along with returning cast members Zendaya, Jacob Batalon,Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (among others) are expected to return as their respective takes on Spidey, but that's yet to be made official.

To paraphrase Videogamedunkey: “This is Sony. They’ll figure out a way to [frick] it up.”

While a number of people were saying earlier that No Way Home had a deeper meaning as it meant the final MCU Spidey film, Holland makes it very clear here that it is his understanding that the partnership between Marvel and Sony will continue and that they've ironed out the kinks so that [Sony's] disastrous decision from 2019 doesn't happen again.

Plus, its pretty normal for an important actor/character not to be under contract. RDJ's contract expired after AoU. All of the core Avengers had their contracts end and then get extended multiple times.

Will be interesting to see how the MS and SPUMC (or whatever it is) relationship continues following this, Morbius, and Venom LTBC. We've seen the boat rock before

@QuiGonsGhost - I'm very interested in seeing how Morbius seemingly expands the MCU

@HeavyMetal4Life - Right. Keaton will either mean a whole lot, or nothing at all.

With all the delays I hope Sony remembers they put that in the trailer haha

Imagine every time there's a frenzy for Spider-Man and all the hubbub over Holland you're the beancounter in 2011 at Sony that suggested selling the merchandising rights back to Marvel was a good decision.
