SPIDER-MAN 4: Footage From Canceled Movie Tie-In Video Game Has Found Its Way Online

Sony Pictures pulled the plug on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, meaning the game was scrapped as well. Now, we have some leaked footage from showing what might have been had the title been released...

Spider-Man 4 was supposed to be released in 2011, with the plan being to pit Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker against The Vulture and Black Cat (though rumour has it the latter would become "Vulturess"). Ultimately, the project fell apart, and Sony Pictures instead decided to reboot the franchise.

That's how we ended up with The Amazing Spider-Man, and fans are now left to hope that Raimi was somehow able to include his wall-crawler in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Once upon a time, video game movie tie-ins were the norm, and, for the most part, they weren't so great. The Spider-Man ones were always fun, though, and Spider-Man 2 is a legit classic. Now, we have a first look at Xbox 360 footage from Radical Entertainment's scrapped Spider-Man 4.

They worked on this for a couple of years before learning that Spider-Man 4 wasn't moving forward, and Beenox went on to release The Amazing Spider-Man (pretty forgettable for the most part).

Based on the footage we see here, this could have been a good game, but the franchise has done just fine since. Insomniac's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales have both received widespread critical acclaim, and a third chapter has now been confirmed to be in the works. That will likely focus on Venom and the Green Goblin as villains, though we're hoping that Peter and Miles will be playable.

What do you guys think about this Spider-Man 4 footage?

Is it true they actually had started filming on Spiderman 4 before it was scrapped

Are they using the same engine that was in prototype? That's certainly interesting the combat of that game was far different from Spider man 3s combat, plus with how spider man web of shadows turned out it could have been fun.

Spider man 4 is still a movie I'm curious about. Maybe Sony and then will still make it if no way home does well. They could do a one off I'm sure and people would be happy

@Mrcool210 - it would be cool to close the Raimi franchise with one last movie. Especially since Marvel is going all in on the Multiverse aspect.

@Mrcool210 - You know what, after No Way Home, I would be totally okay with two live-action Spiderverses: one with Tom Holland being an Avenger, and the other with Tobey Maguire battling Sony villains, with occasional crossover between them.

Heard what offically got Raimi to quit was the studio asking him to either add Lizard or Carnage, when he just wanted Vulture.

@dracula - he didn’t get along with Avi Arad and their was tension between Raimi and Sony during Spider Man 3. Raimi saw the writing on the wall and wanted no part of it, can’t say I blame him for jumping ship.

@dracula - It had more to do with the fact Raimi wasnt happy with the script and wanted more time to work on it, but Sony didnt wanted to move anything (which is ironic given ASM released a year later than SM4)

Yeah im glad things went the way they did. Whatever reality leads us to Insomniac eventually getting the Spider-man IP is the correct one.

Not gonna lie, that looked like complete and utter dog shit. I am curious to see how Spider Man 4 the movie would’ve turned out but man this looks worse than the spider man 3 game.

Well that looked... exactly like Spider-Man 2 and 3. I remember when Spider-Man 2 came out, that game owned the freeroam market for years!

As for Spider-Man 4, it's cool hearing what Rami had planned but let's not forget about what the studio did to 3. 4 would have been regurgitated just as much. So glad the man is working on his favorite character now though.
