SPIDER-WOMAN Animated Movie In The Works; SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Sequel Moving Forward

While it's fair to say that most of us would have been happier with a live-action version, it's been revealed today that Lauren Montgomery (Batman: Year One, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) is in talks to take the helm of a Spider-Woman movie which will bring together a number of female spider heroes, one of whom is expected to be Spider-Gwen from Into the Spider-Verse

There are conflicting reports on whether or not Gwen Stacy will end up being the lead, but the project is expected to include characters such as Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl, and Silk.

Bek Smith (Zoo) is penning the screenplay, while Amy Pascal is on board to produce. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are expected to return in
a creative capacity of some sort but no deals have been signed.

Meanwhile, it's also been confirmed that an Into the Spider-Verse sequel is moving forward, with Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix's Voltron) on board to direct. No story details have been revealed but it's said that the upcoming animated movie is going to set the stage for future adventures in some way (which was to be expected, of course).

Hi Josh,

"While I think it's fair to say that most of us would have been happier with a live-action version"
I disagree and think most would too. I would only like to see a live action version of this, if it were made by MCU. I truly think Sony should stick to animated Spidey-verse films because that's what they're good at and it doesn't fuddle up the live action spiderman universe

I just finished the prequel One Shot Into the Spider-Verse. Good Stff. The Film looks great. I wish people would call Gwen Ghost-Spider. Miles or was it Ham, calls her Ghost-Spider in the first panel. I'm positive she will introduce herself as Gwen Stacy...AKA Ghost-Spider. I'm also sure the "Team wil be call The Web Warriors. I reall need Jessica Drew in a live action film.

Animation is great. I wonder how it'll differ from Into The Spider-Verse. And the latter getting a sequel is sweet.

If Into the Spider-Verse is anywhere near as good as it looks I'd be genuinely excited for a wider animated Spider-franchise from Sony that's going all in with the weirder depth of the property.
