Andrew Garfield is a horrible Peter Parker

Regardless of Andrew Garfield's take on Spider-man, there are a lot of things I don't really like about Garfield. Not only is how the way he looks cringe worthy sometimes, but I never bought him as Peter Parker. I always saw him as a miscast for the role and I will address the reasons why.

Editorial Opinion

1) He is an emo skateboarder.

2) He comes off as an unlikable douche bag in the movies who thinks he's better than everyone around him.

3) He relies on his girl friend to help him beat villains all the time. He shows less superiority as each battle arises.

4) Screw the Ultimate Comics! Skinny Spider-man is an insult to the original Spider-man that follows Stan Lee's ideal and conceptual hero. I want Spider-man to look bigger and more build like a real hero. Every time I watch a skinny guy wearing a Spider-man suit, my nerves always start to get beefed up. It's very easy to pick on the lead actor in this case - horrible choice to play Spider-man.

5) He fails to keep his identity as Spider-man in the kissing scene at Oscorp.

6) He refuses to donate blood to his friend, Harry, to save him from illness. It's like he wants his best friend to die or something. This does not show Peter's true "nerdy" side or "intelligence" at all. It's an unlikable personality we have over here.

7) He looks angsty and too cool to play Peter Parker. He comes off more like a hipster caricature if anything.

8) Peter Parker isn't suppose to be some cool guy wearing a Ramones T-shirt or an American Eagle  outfit. Peter Parker is an individual who grows into a confident man gaining respect from himself and his allies as a hero despite some people looking against him as an exclusive heroic entity. He is also suppose to look nerdy and handsome. Andrew Garfield always looked like a miscasted 30 year old supermodel boy to me who should be modelling for women on an Ambercrombie poster instead.

9) He is too much of a pretty face. Why do we need a bunch of pretty faces as superhero casts these days?

10) He is emotionless in his acting. The way he "cries" doesn't seem to be believable. It's more mockery-ish compared to Tobey Maguire's. You can call Maguire a cry baby all you want, but at least he knows how to cry.

11) Peter Parker is not a stuttering Britain. The comics Peter Parker is a non-stuttering American.

12) The general audience doesn't seem to think he's as interesting as some people think he is. Wanna know how you can easily spot that? The rottentomatoes, IMDB, and the BOX OFFICE all show that he is lacking the charisma to pull off the take on one of the most iconic superheroes out there. Of course, people who like Andrew Garfield will say they want him kept as long as possible, but this is also what has been bothering me the whole time. You need a lead actor who is charasmatic and interesting enough to play a superhero like Spider-man. The general audiences aren't as dumb as  the comic book fans think they are. He is just... unlikable

13) He doesn't read the script before he acts. A true individual who has much charm and respect for the character would always try to request reading the script(s) before acting or filming.

14) He has this monotone voice that can change sometimes - sometimes he sounds like Peter Parker, and sometimes he can sound like himself. It's annoying.

15) Most importantly, when you attach Andrew Garfield's name to Spider-man and do it with Tobey Maguire's name too, Andrew Garfield seems like a secondary person to portray him, not primary (even though both of them are bad choices to play PP/SM). Tobey Maguire's name always naturally had the more primary reputation to attach to Spider-man regardless of what the circumstances are. I would prefer someone in between them both to play PP/SM.

16) The humor he delivers feels forced.

Conclusion: Who is Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker? A twilight zone type of guy who is just centered around women and a bunch of brainwashed comic book fans who think he's great looking and perfect for the role. He is some random dude you can't even relate to and comes off unbelievable as a superhero.

If I was reading Spider-man comic books right now, even the comic book version of PP/SM would be more likable than the cinematic PP/SM we have right now. I don't hate the character portrayal in this franchise, but it's the cast who is more of an issue than anything.

** But you know what, we can put it this way, Tobey Maguire is the better Peter Parker, and Andrew Garfield is the better Spider-man **

Hope this does not get deleted now cause someone told me to add it into the "editorial" section instead of the "news" section. Happy now?

I don't like ASM2 but I do like Garfield as Peter Parker. This also isn't really a basis for an entire editorial.

A lot of your points act as if Garfield wrote the movie.

I don't like Garfield as Parker either, but lets be fair. A lot of your reasons would have happened regardless of who was cast as Peter. Because it was the writing, not the acting that made those things happen.

You think Garfield has any say in the wardrobe or what shirts he wears in the film? No. Thats the image that the writers and director wanted him to portray. Same with him being an "emo skateboarder". You might as well say Garfield sucks as Peter because the Green Goblin looked stupid. He had nithing to do with that.

You can also go ahead and throw out any points you make about events that happen inthe movie because none of that was caused by Garfield.

Garfield sucks as Peter because he wouldn't give blood to his friend in the film? Are you kidding me?

He's too old to play Spider-man by the rate these films are being pushed out. I actually don't mind Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker and Spider-man, my complaints stand with the way the character is written especially in TASM 2.

Ok...
When making sweeping generalizations that involve a sub culture, you might want to do your homework, and not use 50 cent words just to use them. I'd like to post a challenge to you sir, and I'm not even kidding. I'm not trying to be inflammatory, rude, or contrarian, I'm being 100% serious. I'd like to see you post another article, with objective opinions, that speak to general mass that might not be all to familiar, with the entire mythos of Spider-Man, and it's many incarnations. Make something that would be conducive even to people that might have liked the movie, but from position that they can even agree to disagree. (yes, not likely to happen)

It's obvious that you're writing to placate to the people that throw gas on the Wilding flame articles.
Coming off as angry juvenile, and making blanket statements about, "American Eagle", or a cool guy in a "Ramones" tshirt, it really puts people off, and sounds like an angry rant in a school cafeteria. I've seen first hand the whole,
Preps vs. Nerds thing the entirety of school, but let's be bigger than that, rise above it, and see it for what it is. I know this is a comic book site, so I'm asking for the moon, but for real, this is kind of out of control.
It's great to be passionate, and really connect with, love a character. But don't let the rage steer your articles to the point of negligence, and damn near prejudice.

Andrew is just one of the reasons why the Spider-Man reboot is failing.

To me, its like the pieces of the puzzle did not fit together.

"He looks angsty and too cool to play Peter Parker. He comes more like a hipster caricature if anything."

You obviously have no idea what an emo is, or what a hipster is...

As for the rest of this...editorial...

You don't have to like TASM2 to see how great Garfield is in the role. He is a great Spider-man/ PP. He is the best spidey and I think he'll stay that way

This is a terribly written piece of content, full of personal opinions, ignorance of characterization/personality and just plainly, poorly constructed. There are flaws with the movie, and certainly flaws with his performance, but his portrayal of a witty, smart mouthed spider-man has been miles ahead of Tobey Maguire. Tobey got the nerd part down solid, but his dorkyness bled through the costume and ruined any snarky lines they gave spidey. Andrew, on the other hand, was able to bring a smart-ass quality to spider-man the original three never managed to do. Furthermore, Garfield's onscreen charisma with Stone was miles ahead of anything Maguire and Dunst brought to their respective films. And you're seriously criticizing Garfields emotional range while presenting Tobeyface as an example of proper cry acting? Are you serious?? Tobey's face twists into an unholy mixture of chucky and the problem child when he tries to cry. This "article" reads like some bitter high school student jealously whining about the popular kids, not like any real sort of examination of the flaws that plagued ASM2 or its leading cast.
