Here's Why We Don't See The Classic Iron Spider Suit In SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
The Sony Hack emails pointed to the MCU's Spider-Man donning the red and gold suit given to him by Iron Man during the events of Civil War but here's why we haven't seen it on the big screen...
When the Sony Hack emails found their way online, one of them pointed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's wall-crawler donning the Iron Spider suit from the comic books. Introduced before the events of Civil War, the suit was created by Tony Stark and had a variety of new features, including extra arms. It would have been a great way to distinguish this new take on Peter Parker from previous iterations but Marvel instead went down the classic route with some pretty significant upgrades.
HeyUGuys.com recently caught up with Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and asked whether there was any thought put into using the actual Iron Spider suit which is pictured above.
"Well, in a way the fact that the suit is built by Tony Stark is an indirect inspiration from the Iron Spider suit which Tony Stark built in the comics," he explains. "We used that as a jumping-off point for all the bells and whistles this suit can do." That makes sense in the long run and you can understand why Marvel may have wanted to keep the classic red and blue for Spidey's MCU intro.
As for the future of the franchise and which villains we could see next, Watts remained vague. "I've been more focused on the really dumb villains in Spider-Man's rogues' gallery. There are some really, really silly ones so I haven't put a lot of thought into which ones would be good. I've only thought about which ones would be so bad!"
