With an 'A+' Cinemascore,
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is crushing it with fans across the board, with the truest, most identifiable portrayals of the character since the Raimi films. With several different iterations of the web-slinger given the spotlight for the original, it leaves fans wondering: "Who is coming for the sequel?" While it is heavily implied towards the end of the film who may be joining the fray, producer/writer Phil Lord may have revealed the potential inclusion of another.
After being asked if Japanese Spider-Man will be tagging along with Miles for the Spider-Verse 2, the creative had this to say, with one condition set in place:
It turns out that the 1978 Japanese iteration of the character, who also happens to have a megazord-esque robot on hand, will only be in the sequel if the original crosses $200 million domestically, but is this possible?
Currently the domestic total stands around $115 million in 19 days of release. Analysts believe that the film's ceiling is currently at $175 million concerning the strong holds the animated feature has had in the United States. Is $200 million out of reach? No, but its box office this following weekend will be a great indicator of whether we will get the Japanese Spider-Man in the sequel going forward.
