SPIDER-VERSE 2: Japanese Spider-Man Will Make An Appearance In the Sequel, But Only On One Condition

The ending of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse leaves a lot of room open for endless possibilities. When it comes to the wackiness of sequel characters, Japanese Spider-Man is at the op of the list.

With an 'A+' Cinemascore, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is crushing it with fans across the board, with the truest, most identifiable portrayals of the character since the Raimi films. With several different iterations of the web-slinger given the spotlight for the original, it leaves fans wondering: "Who is coming for the sequel?" While it is heavily implied towards the end of the film who may be joining the fray, producer/writer Phil Lord may have revealed the potential inclusion of another.

After being asked if Japanese Spider-Man will be tagging along with Miles for the Spider-Verse 2, the creative had this to say, with one condition set in place:

It turns out that the 1978 Japanese iteration of the character, who also happens to have a megazord-esque robot on hand, will only be in the sequel if the original crosses $200 million domestically, but is this possible?

Currently the domestic total stands around $115 million in 19 days of release. Analysts believe that the film's ceiling is currently at $175 million concerning the strong holds the animated feature has had in the United States. Is $200 million out of reach? No, but its box office this following weekend will be a great indicator of whether we will get the Japanese Spider-Man in the sequel going forward.

The giant transforming robot Leopardon was, if I recall correctly, the hero’s robot vehicle in the novel READY PLAYER ONE.

This could actually be considered the first time a zord/Mecha was used. While not part of the Sentai series, Toei did incorporate giant Mecha into their Sentai series after this starting with battle fever J. Also super Sentai and the Kamen Rider universe are cannon in marvel Earth-79203

Battle fever J was also produced by marvel and slightly inspired by marvel characters

They should try it, the sequel should introduce new things and characters and universes/dimensions while still staying true to what made the last film so great.

But don't forget about Spidey 2099 either!

@NinnesMBC - I'm hoping to see Spider-Monkey.

He's such an obscure character, I'd like to see what they do with him. That being said, I don't know if he was introduced earlier, but I remember him from the 'Marvel Apes' comic run.

Maybe he knows it might not pass 200 million domestic, but will include him anyway to surprise everyone...
