While doing press for his most recent film "Bullet Train", Aaron Taylor Johnson (who will star in the new SPUMC movie Kraven The Hunter) commented on how his version of the character would be different than the Kraven of the comics.

Even though the Kraven that we know and love is an obsessive hunter who kills for sport, it seems that the movie version, will be more protective towards animals. Aaron Taylor-Johnson´s previous comment already stirred some controversy when he described his version of Kraven the Hunter as an "animal lover". This comment wasn´t to the liking of some comic book purists.  Let´s see how movie fans react to this change, and let´s hope that the change is well executed in the film!

When asked by comicbook.com´s writer Jamie Lovett if his version of Kraven would wear a "big-ass lion´s mane", the 32 year old british actor said the following:

"I can't confirm any details or anything," Taylor-Johnson says.

"And also, I guess that was probably a little taken out of context and then run. I mean, I think you know what I meant what really stated was that he was a protector of the natural world I said and he's a conservationist, which is probably more accurate, and then should have stopped there, full stop, shouldn't have gone on beyond that because, yeah I think you know you really got to understand, yeah, he is a hunter and from that world of hunting and there's so many aspects".

"What I love about that character is that what is he humanizing is that he has flaws, right? Kraven is a beautiful character. Sergei Kravinov is a beautiful character because it's someone who's really understanding themselves and has flaws. This is a character that was built ages ago and it's in a new time and era, but yeah, is he going to be the hunter that we all want to see? Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely."

Steve Ditko and Stan Lee created Kraven the Hunter. He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in 1964, 58 years ago, and since his inception he has sported his lion´s vest and been an animal killer. Let´s see how the character changes will impact the film and how fans will react to them.

JC Chandlor´s Kraven the Hunter movie will be released on January 13 and will star: Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff / Kraven and  Ariana DeBose as Calypso- Christopher Abbott has been cast as the main villain, with Alessandro Nivola also cast as a villain, while Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, and Levi Miller have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Well, I guess this means we aren't getting Jimmy Kimmel. Oh, well.

On a more serious note, this could be an example of how some characters from decades ago may not go over with the general public as well as they did with comic book fans back "in the day".

@LSHF - it would have gone over better with the GA if he was the villain of a movie like how he was a villain in the comics. Not an anti-hero protagonist.

@JFerguson - I guess we'll see how well the general audience accepts it down the road, although I imagine not many comic book fans are getting their hopes up about this latest Sony "Spider-Verse" film.

Yeah, this sounds like it'll be going to the same steaming pile that was the credit-scene of Morbius.

Welp....He's gotta work, can't blame him, sometimes an actor should be VERY selective on what they do or it can hurt their career.

I blame Marvel Studios too though, they SHOULD'VE kept him around and gave him some roles by bringing back Pietro. Fox-Quicksilver had cool scenes but the character was whack and un-like the Marvel character personality wise, Marvel Studios' Quicksilver didn't have as much cool scenes but the character was much more faithful to the Marvel character's personality.

I would've much preferred the Marvel Studios version over Fox's. Yet, here we are, and the actor needs to work so....
