Marc Webb Discusses The Character Of Curt Connors In TASM

io9 have posted a new interview with Webb in which he discusses both his new take on Peter Parker and most interestingly how he feels Curt Connors(The Lizard) will fit into his story..

By far the biggest reveal at this year's SDCC was the first ever screened footage of the villain from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man; The Lizard. Descriptions(we still haven't seen it) flooded the net and amped up anticipation to see the toothy bugger into overdrive.

Now Marc Webb discuses the character of Curt Connors(Rhys Ifans) who will become The Lizard in the movie. He says he is the "literal embodiment of the theme of the movie" among other things..

What's great about Curt Connors is he is both a mentor and an adversary in some way, which I think is so interesting. He believes what he is doing is good and to me there is a thematic quality to the film, this movie is about finding their missing piece. Peter Parker, his parents left him, and he goes out searching for his father at the beginning of the movie and Curt Connors has this missing arm, and he goes out trying to get his arm back in some way. It's this search, this desire to fill the void that defines us in some way and I thought Curt Connors was a literal embodiment of the theme of the movie. The Lizard is just a rad, very cinematic creature.

io9 have more from Webb as well as Emma Stone(Gwen Stacy) but it's nothing we haven't heard before really. Click the link below to have a looksee.

Kurt cobain? Lol

Im really glad Webb is going in depth to the characters, something Raining didn't do outside of cheesy omelette and dance scenes in Spidey 3 and sappy love things in 2

Otto really wasn't a father figure to Peter in 2. He was a mentor and an idol. They had Uncle Ben be his father figure from 1 up until 3. But i don't think you can actually compare Peter looking for a father and Curt looking for a way to get his arm back together as a whole More as Every finds themselves one way or another.

After his arrest for assaulting the security guard at Comic-Con, Ifans is reported by police to have been insulting to everyone... security, the police, and the USA, and doesn't want to return to the US. Nice guy. Maybe Sony should know now that I don't fund pieces of crap like Ifans, so I can live without this Spidey reboot... unless maybe they reshoot the reboot without him.

sigh...

how is doc ock like lizard?
lizard is tragic because all he tried to do is make himself whole and it goes terribly wrong.

I guess you can say conners is a scientist who due to an accident becomes a villian, in that case MOST of spidey's villians are like that.

lizard
doc ock
green goblin

or just accidents

Did he say speaking of the actor who plays the mask villian known as: Prto-Goblin, "NOT GOING TO PLAY A MONSTER; becasue he was afraid or-some thing along the lines of that?" But his kids thought was cool for him to play a "monster".

What's with all the sudden hate for Rhys Ifans?
1) the guy was completely drunk. Im sure you've all said things you didnt mean and regretted when you were drunk.
2) We dont even know he said any of that anti america shit. There's no proof, just the word of some witness who could very well be talking out their ass.

[frick] this movie, and I am a Marvel fan..
The lizard is just not as epic as Doc Ock, abomination, or DC's joker and darkseid. Spudey has better villains to fight. They should have resone the GG, its a reboot anyway

Ill give it a shot but I dont expect this to top Avengers or TDKR.

Am I the only one who thinks the scorpion would be awesome on screen? He should be the next villian. I thought Marc Webb said that it isn't a reboot but the next chapter. If so will we still get villains that have been done already like green goblin, doc ock, venom and sandman

The Lizard is RAD.

Connors was always a tragic story. He had no ulterior motive. No dark plot. He wasn't crazy. He truly thought he had found the answer to fixing himself and helping countless other amputees.

Dock Ock, at least in comics, is not that at all. He's my second favorite Spidey villain next to GG. Venom is cool but he only makes my third for the very internal conflicts and not the wicked awesome design and shock value actions. Dock Ock is what could have happened to Peter. Turning sour and disconnected from humanity, then blooming with brilliance. He's the guy who wanted to blow up the bullies. He becomes obsessive over his science. He was always a twisted man

I was thinking of a way to reintroduce The Green Goblin to the big screen.

The mask is really what makes or breaks the look of the villain. I would go with a darker, more grounded take on the character. Use a thick green paint for the face with natural looking dark circles around the eyes and gray touch-up for wrinkles and muscle features ect.. with a dark purple hood.

It wouldn't be an actual mask, but the paint would be thick enough so it would resemble the classic look.

At a press conference? It totally shows lack of character and professionalism to show up drunk for a press conference at Comic Con.

I've been saying it for a while now, but I think that Kraven is the best Spider-Man villain that should be used from his rouges gallery right now. He has the history, he has the bully effect (that gives Spidey the underdog approach). He has no mask (which is great for emotional acting). He doesn't need a gang of cgi. Just upgrade his costume and have him set up cool traps/scenarios that Spidey barely escapes from. Heck, I'd love to see him as a secondary character that comes along trying to kill the Lizard, and ends up going for Spidey as a more interesting kill. That kind of film interests me much more than Spidey vs a mindless, overgrown reptile...
