In Morbius' post-credits scenes, Michael Keaton's MCU villain Adrian Toomes was brought into Sony's Marvel Universe. With that, the stage was set for a team-up down the line for these comic book villains to "do some good," a reveal that's left the vast majority of fans angry, confused, or both.
Talking to Variety, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa was asked what Sony Pictures is actually building toward, and while he declined to get into specifics, the filmmaker did say, "I just know that they have a plan." He added, "They said that there are certain things that are going to be unearthed, like all these questions that exist. Does there exist a Spider-Man in their universe? Who should it be? There is an answer coming, apparently, and I’m looking forward to it."
Madame Web seems like the most likely place to answer the question of which Spider-Man is part of this world. Thankfully, Tom Holland's Peter Parker looks set to remain part of the MCU, and while the actor has cast some doubt on his future as the web-slinger, he's expected to return for Spider-Man 4.
As for what Espinosa would like to see from Morbius and Vulture moving forward, there's one name in particular that jumps out to the director. "I think Norman Osborn would be very interesting," he said of a possible future team-up. "That’s a whole different idea, that’s like if you go away from the idea of Sinister Six and you’re going into something different."
We'll see what happens next, but enthusiasm for Sony's plans has definitely lessened since Morbius arrived in theaters last week. Hopefully, the studio is able to course correct with Kraven the Hunter.
