Well, we all knew there was a possibility this could happen, and it looks like Sony Pictures has indeed latched on to the massive surge in memes and social media activity surrounding Morbius.
Concerns grew that the studio may officially greenlight a sequel after the disastrous Spider-Man spinoff was given a new lease of life online, and while that hasn't happened (yet), ComicBook.com is reporting that Morbius is set for a big-screen rerelease, with new showtimes beginning Friday, June 3rd in over 1,000 theaters.
Though the movie has already achieved something of a cult following since originally hitting theaters on April 1, it's important to clarify that most people are laughing at Morbius, not with it. Still, it is worth noting that the film has been performing very well on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Morbius may not have been very successful at the box office, but nor was it a major flop, and respectable Blu-ray sales could potentially lead to Sony Pictures giving a follow-up the go-ahead. It's still not very likely, but that doesn't mean we won't see Jared Leto return as The Living Vampire in whatever unholy team-up movie the studio seemed to be threatening in that post-credits scene.
Will you be heading to your local multiplex to give Morbius another shot this weekend?
