Despite being met with negative critical reviews and ridicule from some fans, Morbius has managed to take a bite out of the competition by heading straight to #1 in the Apple TV charts. Read on for more!

Morbius was met by overwhelmingly negative reviews back in April, and even now, it sits at a lowly 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. Comic book fans were unimpressed for the most part, but there were those who had fun with the Living Vampire's live-action debut (and Matt Smith's madcap performance).

That might explain this news. As you can see below, Morbius has swooped straight to the top of the Apple TV charts, an indication that people have rushed to buy and rent the blockbuster on Digital.

There could be any number of reasons for this. Morbid curiosity is one, though we'd guess that as well as the die-hard Marvel fans who did enjoy Morbius, there are also those who missed it in theaters. It only grossed $163.1 million at the worldwide box office, so compared to Venom ($856.1 million) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($506.9 million), a lot of people didn't see this one on the big screen.

"Jared Leto’s transformation makes for compelling viewing," we said in our review back in March, "but the Living Vampire can’t elevate a disappointing story that serves as a powerful, dare we say terrifying, reminder that Spider-Man is better off (and safer) in the MCU with Marvel Studios."

Morbius is available on Digital now and will hit 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on June 14.

Eh, makes sense if you think about it with all the "morbius breaks box office records" memes. People who don't necessarily follow superhero movies news probably just wanted to get context for the joke.

I predict this will become a growing trend. Many of these movies have a few moments of quality, between dumb decision making and cheesy dialouge. Add that with YouTube spoilers, and general audiences will ask "Why spend $30-$75 on a film with as much substance as the Icee you finish before the opening credits roll?". Covid made entertainment gods bleed. Better writers and higher cgi efforts will be the rebirth. Lack thereof will be the demise.

As long as a film is connected to a larger Uniiverse (even tangentially) it will be popular no matter how bad. This is a cautionary tale for those advising other studios to NOT connect their super hero films.

It's been said a million times, but I'll say it again:

There is no true correlation between "popular" and "good".

It's a brand new blockbuster for home video release and it ONLY took the stop spot on one outlet

This is the equivalent of Leto being proud that Morbius earned $100M 🤦🏽‍♂️

🤣🤣🤣

Watched it the other night. It kind of felt like that ten minutes before a server reset on an app. You can't really do anything else since you're waiting to get whatever tasks for the day started; You just kind of sit there. A fly might buzz by to break up the monotony but beyond that ... nothing. Matt Smith hamming it up was that fly.

At least a bad movie leaves an impression.

I still don't know why they made a movie about a character hardly anyone knew about. even in the comics...morbius was like a what...c or d character ? I could understand if they had introduced him in a Blade movie. You have to build up these third tier characters first. Guardians of the Galaxy may be the only exception. I am still not a fan of Peter's guardians. i loved the original team better. And did they ever jack up Yondu's origin. he was never like that in the comics.

This movie got a bad rap. If the venom movies can be successfull & make money then this movie should’ve done the same. Cuz imo Morbius was better than both venom movies by a pretty big margin imo. That doesn’t make Morbius great though, it was decent & could’ve been good given the right script & direction.
