AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Congratulate Tom Holland For Successful SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Trailer Launch

In just 24 hours, the Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser became the highest-viewed, most talked about trailer of all-time, beating Avengers: Endgame. Now, the Russo Brothers have weighed in on that news...

There was a huge amount of excitement surrounding the release of the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and while a low-res version leaked beforehand, it did nothing to dampen interest in the teaser. This was evident from the fact that it was viewed a whopping 355,500,000 times in 24 hours, while Sony Pictures was quick to tout a huge 4,500,000 million "conversations" online.

As a result, the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer broke Avengers: Endgame's record to become the most-viewed, most talked about trailer of all time!

Now, the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony, have taken to Instagram to congratulate Tom Holland on the teaser's success. "More like BRINGING it home!!" the filmmakers exclaimed. "You’re kicking ass and taking names TH!" The actor would later respond in the comments saying, "All my love lads!!!"

The Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans were responsible for casting Holland as Spider-Man, and later included him in their two Avengers movies. They also worked together on Cherry, a movie we described in our review as "a storytelling and filmmaking masterpiece" and "an outstanding, unforgettable exploration of the opioid crisis with career best performances from Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo."

Check out Joe and Anthony's response to the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer launch below:

@dracula - Being an avenger made him even bigger as we saw with the box office for far from home. Of course I’m not counting pandemic box office in a normal way, I think it will do what it will do, and I lament that it won’t do what it would have done, in my mind, this movie would have made anywhere from 1.2 to 1.5 billion. That’s Iron Man three, black panther, avengers age of Ultron, or avengers money. Now, That’s unattainable. Nevertheless, people love Holland’s Spider-Man. i used to love keeping up with box office😔

I'm so glad they didn't show the money shot, save it for the theater. Imagine if they showed the portal scene from Endgame in a trailer or clip lol it's that important! Tickets will be hard to get, luckily I get up early muahaha

"Congrats! You're the thing people are least excited for in your own movie!"

"Congrats! The biggest selling point of your new movie is literally the excitement of seeing the characters of the original franchise return"

@Waddles - I dunno, I think there's some of that that comes naturally, but I wouldn't say that's necessarily true across the board. You mention Iron Man for example and I know for a fact that RDJ, especially in those early movies, was such a big draw that the fun of the movies wasn't even seeing the action, it was going to see Tony Stark and what he was going to say next. All the other characters, if anything, felt more like stuff you were excited to see him interact with than stuff you were excited to see on its own. I would say that's true of most of the Marvel movies in particular too as you're dealing with characters that the average audience doesn't know, thus wouldn't get hyped for. I don't think any average joe was getting excited about Winter Soldier or Nightcrawler. Catwoman, Joker, Two-Face, they make sense because they are iconic characters already and it was all about seeing the "new take" in a series they were enjoying up to this point. Iron Man 2, Cap 2, I'm fairly confident the appeal for most people of those was "Hey it's another one of these movies. I liked the last one a lot."

But I mean regardless, this is breaking huge records, and it's for something everyone has seen already, something people miss. I feel that's kind of telling.

The irony is, no one really walked away from this trailer going “woah Tom Holland!”

Mrcool210
Mrcool210 - 8/27/2021, 2:53 AM
@Se4M4NSt4ine - To be fair when he was in Civil War they did do that. But now their used to him. Molina (despite being from an old thing) is the new thing and peoplr always get excited about the new thing.

If I may paraphrase the second worst men in black movie. Tom Holland is old and busted....Alfred Molina coming back (and others) is the new hotness.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Nobody walked away from any sequel's trailer going "woah *insert main character* " They do that for said character's first appearance.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - it’s literally the MCU version of the Flash movie. No one is here for Wzra or Holland but all the callbacks and nostalgia baiting, uhhhhhh-yes plz

@McMurdo - it’s literally the MCU version of the Flash movie.

Not really, since people actually want to see Spider-Man.
Mrcool210
Mrcool210 - 8/27/2021, 8:21 AM
@McMurdo - it isn't really. All the Batman stuff inserted in there does take away from what that movie is supposed to be. A flash movie.

Regardless of whether you like this direction or not, this is still a Spider-Man movie through and through.

That thumbnail picture with someone holding up a sign saying "Devil in disguise" and showing Parker with horns?

That's confirmation that Parker is Mephisto.

We're probably gonna have Mephisto somewhere in this, right? It's based on the events of One More Day. And we already have one devil in there (Charlie Cox's Daredevil). Maybe Willem Dafoe is Mephisto... It's gonna be a reveal of some sort, I'm guessing. And this picture with somebody calling Parker the devil is very on-the-nose, especially considering the current fan-trend of seeing Mephisto everywhere.

@GwenLantern - Mephisto seems like a no-go. I think they'll mix him up with Nightmare

While this is definitely impressive, why Tom specifically? Listening to all the things people are interested in this movie, Tom Holland himself seems pretty low on that list. Can't we send a congrats to molina? Or the company that made the trailer?
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 8/27/2021, 4:12 AM
@Origame - I think it's because they worked with Tom quite a bit, and although I'm sure they respect the work that goes into these things, and the people involved, it was probably just a proud shout out to their buddy's successful first showing of this much anticipated flick.

It is so bizarre that people's takeaway from the hype for No Way Home was that people aren't excited about seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Holland's been the head and shoulder level lead of 2 of the 3 highest grossing Spider-Man movies, including the highest grossing Spider-Man film by a wide margin which didn't feature any other superheroes. Weird alternative fact-based narrative to cling onto, but I kinda figured that was where things were going next once people got the trailer they were clamoring for. Spider-Man discourse is nothing if not consistent

This is HIS movie, they're continuing HIS arc. HE'S responsible for all the nostalgia.

Not a coincidence.

But doesn't this really mean that MORE people "needed" to see the trailer before determining "if" they are going to see the movie?

I mean, I sincerely believe that there are more people who are unsure about seeing this film than they were about seeing Endgame.
