Spider-Man: No Way Home was a long movie, and with so many characters, it's no wonder certain moments had to be glossed over or take place off-screen. Omissions include the improvements made to Electro and the Green Goblin's costumes prior to the big battle at the Statue of Liberty, though we did recently learn that an early idea was for them to raid Damage Control's headquarters.
After Norman Osborn smashed his mask earlier in the movie, he flew into that confrontation with the three Spider-Men wearing a hood and goggles. That's fair enough, but some new concept art from Josh Nizzi reveals a design with the classic green helmet incorporated into his Goblin glider.
"This is the design I was most disappointed got cut for [Spider-Man: No Way Home]," he admits. "Using parts from Stark technology, like the Mysterio drones, Goblin was going to upgrade his glider. I was super happy about the idea of him putting his mask on the front to echo his glider in the comics. Helps to make him seem crazy too. In the end, I think they made the right call."
Ultimately, Marvel Studios chose to move completely away from the divisive mask, giving Willem Dafoe an opportunity to bring the Goblin to life through his amazing performance. It's unclear what, if any, future the villain has on screen, though we do know that Norman Osborn doesn't exist in the MCU.
Spider-Man: No Way Home releases on Digital on March 22 and physical platforms on April 12.
