SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Looks Set To Become Sony Pictures' Most Profitable Movie Of All Time

It's no secret that Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a box office hit, but exactly how much money is Sony Pictures - and Marvel Studios - likely to make? We have some estimates, and they are staggering...

While Hollywood is starting to slowly recover from the worst of the pandemic, it still hasn't been the most profitable year for blockbusters. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home has exceeded all expectations, becoming the first movie since 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to gross more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Deadline has now broken down how profitable the movie is likely to be, and as of today, it's already set to earn a $242 million net profit. However, providing theaters remain open over the coming weeks and months, Spider-Man: No Way Home's profit margin is likely to swing as high as $610 million.

That would make the threequel Sony Pictures' most profitable movie of all time, though some of the money is going to be shared with Disney/Marvel Studios.

As part of the new deal between the studios that allows them to share Spider-Man, Marvel Studios covered 25% of the production cost (believed to be $50 million), and will thereby receive 25% of the profits (an estimated $152.5 million based on these figures). That's not a bad return, and one that you have to imagine both studios will be happy with. Well, we certainly hope so, because that will ensure the two sides continue to work together, thereby keeping Peter Parker in the MCU.

Of course, it's already been reported that Marvel Studios and Sony have started work on Spider-Man 4, though there's no word on when exactly that will swing into theaters. The first trilogy saw us get a new movie featuring the web-slinger every two years, but Tom Holland has been vocal about wanting to take a little time off from playing the iconic Marvel Comics character.

Maybe they will realise that ppl prefer good films over garbage like venom 2. However I doubt that, hollywood execs are quite dense.

@pyramosteu - but Venom 2 was a success. I think you meant to say garbage like the Eternals.

@IronMan616 - You're right we need more Adam Sandler comicbook movies like Venom let their be garbage

@Gore - Venom 2 made more money than the Marvel movies Disney made this year, and NWH made more money than the Marvel movies Disney made this year...COMBINED.
And get the salt ready, because Morbius is going to be another hit.

@TheHumanSpider2 - I don't know how to break this to you but Marvel produced NWH...so yay for Marvel I guess or should we just ignore that so you can make your point lol
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/28/2021, 12:06 PM
@Samuvel - Disney gets 25% of the BO because they let Sony use some of their characters...the Spiderman solo movies were, are, and always will be produced by Sony and Columbia

@TheHumanSpider2 - Disney gets 25% because this is a co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios/Disney. And the only thing Sony does in this MCU Spider-man movies is to put in the money and distribution because Marvel Studios is the creative force behind them. It's basically a Marvel Studios movie with the Sony logo and money behind it.

So glad they're already working on Spider-Man Home 4. And if they're smart, they involve Marvel Studios too in Spider-Man 4 and the Amazing Spider-Man 3 too if they make those.
TheShellyMan
TheShellyMan - 12/28/2021, 10:35 AM
@bkmeijer - Especially TASM 3. I'd let Marc Webb direct again this under MS control instead of Sony & Avi Arad.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/28/2021, 11:14 AM
@bkmeijer - They are not making SM4 or ASM3.

bkmeijer2 - 12/28/2021, 11:30 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - instead they're gonna make more movies like Venom and Morbius probably. Can't wait for the Madame Web movie
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/28/2021, 11:32 AM
@bkmeijer - Better than a Spiderman 4 movies with 46 years old Tobey Maguire and without Raimi...
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/28/2021, 11:36 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - that's why I wan't Spider-Man 4 to be about Mayday Parker (so actually not Spider-Man 4, but Spider-Woman). They can easily bring back Raimi though. However, I don't see it happening
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/28/2021, 11:39 AM
@bkmeijer - While I'm on board for a MayDay Parker movie with Tobey's Peter in a mentor role, Raimi didnt part ways with Sony in the best terms, and I highly doubt Kirsten would be open to come back...also, Tobey's salary would make the movie too expensive for the kind of budget Sony is planning to spend on these movies.

bkmeijer2 - 12/28/2021, 11:49 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - thought Dunst said not that long ago she would like to explore the character again. I can see budget be a problem though yeah
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/28/2021, 11:52 AM
Found it, Dunst even talked about it before No Way home came out:

https://ew.com/movies/kirsten-dunst-memorable-roles/

While reading the article, I kinda forgot she was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind too. Kinda ironic given the theme of the movie, how much I forgot about that movie
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/28/2021, 12:07 PM
@bkmeijer - She also still mad about how little she was paid for those movies...she also suffered from severe depresion after the trilogy was over, I dont see her coming back, I dont see Tobey co-starring for less than $20M, and I dont see Raimi interested in making this...
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/28/2021, 12:40 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - thats why I initially said IF they're gonna do it. Because it is a big if

So does Sony think they did this all themselves or do they understand it's because of Marvel Studios partnership?

@WakandaTech - They did it all themselves.

To think that they almost pulled out of this deal is crazy. That being said you just know there’s someone at a Sony board meeting right now giving them all the credit and saying “see we can do this ourselves look how much money we just made!”
