Tobey Maguire Sounds Like He'd Be Very Interested In Returning As SPIDER-MAN Again If Asked

Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home united the three Spideys, fans have been clamoring for more and it sure sounds like Tobey Maguire would be more than down for a Spider-Man encore if asked.

It's been over a year since Spider-Man: No Way Home united all three live-action Spider-Men and ever since the epic event, fans have been clamoring for even more Spider-Man. Unfortunately, however, neither Sony Pictures nor Marvel Studios have been particularly forthcoming about the future of Tom Holland's wall-crawler nor have they said anything about additional appearances from Tobey Maguire and/or Andrew Garfield, although it seems as though all parties are very interested in an encore.

Ahead of next month's release of Spider-Man No Way Home: The Official Movie Special, Marvel has shared excerpts from new interviews with Maguire and Garfield, with the former sharing some interesting comments about potentially reprising his original Spider-Man role again in a future MCU film. When asked about getting the initial No Way Home call, he recounts,

"When they called initially, I was like finally! [Laughs] I got the call and was immediately open about coming to do this. Not without nerves – you know, “What will this look like and what will the experience be?” But to get to show up with beautiful, talented, creative people and play together? It’s just like, “Yes!” It’s fun and exciting."

Maguire continues and rather enthusiastically declares his willingness to come back as the original Spider-Man, if/when called upon.

"I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, “Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?” or “Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?”, it would be a “yes!” Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?"

While Garfield hasn't made such a definitive statement, all signs point to him also being very interested in reprising the part if/when the time comes since he had a complete blast working on No Way Home opposite his predecessor and successor. The 2x Academy Award-nominated actor tells Marvel,

"I think myself, Tom, and Tobey came into this going, “Well, how’s this gonna go?” I’d had lovely interactions with Tom and Tobey previously; not big hangouts, but really sweet moments at parties or events – or as sweet and deep as those things can go, which is not very! But I got a really good vibe from Tom and a really good vibe from Tobey. So I was excited to get to know these guys more and to see what we could create together.

We all came with our own history and with our own relationship to the character in our own films. I think what really was wonderful, and how it unfolded very early on, was Tobey and I felt very aligned and very clear about what our intentions were for being there. Ultimately, it was to serve Tom as an actor and, as characters, serving Tom’s Peter Parker. I think from that place, everything flowed. It enabled Tobey and me to have a bit more fun maybe than we would’ve had if we were the ones fully carrying the story."

Nothing is set in stone and it's likely that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have been jointly mapping out what to do with Spider-Man over the course of the next decade, so hopefully we'll get some sort of news on that front before the end of this calendar year, if not by CinemaCon in April, at the earliest.

The rumor mill has already been churning with online scoopers claiming Maguire and Garfield are already set to feature prominently in 2026's Avengers: Secret Wars, which is certainly an exciting prospect, to say the least.

Whatever actually happens remains to be seen, but we're certainly rooting for them to show up and help save the multiverse.

spider-man 2 is probably my favorite marvel adaptation ever, but his performance in nwh felt so phoned-in. assuming he's in secret wars (which seems like a pretty obvious guess), hopefully he's better.

@tmp3 - I liked him but he was the weakest of the three. But also it can be hard to jump back into performances you haven’t played for a decade or more.

Aside from whatever Multiverse nonsense Marvel has prepared for him, let the man have his series back. Let it be a series of mentoring his powered daughter, as other pretenders have suggested.

Let there be said that I am as eager to fancast as any peasant here. I hereby propose Idris Elba as Peter's six-and-ten years old daughter.

I really do think that the "Multiverse Saga", whatever you think of it so far, was a stroke of genius as far as serving, as nothing else, a way for Marvel Studios to "clean house" in a sort of way, considering that al lot of things happed all at once and Kevin & Co. had to come up with a way to address all of it and make it work in a narrative that made sense. (1) The acquisition of Fox and all those characters and their respective histories), and (2) the absorption of Marvel Television and all its characters and their respective histories. So what better way to deal with it than BAM! the Multiverse. They started with "Loki" introducing the concept and setting the stage knowing that they were going to ultimately build to the ultimately Multiversal showdown in "A:SW", and (the vast majority) of everything that's come Ince "Loki" is building up to that.

So I think that we can expect to see just about every version of every character that has happened previously on other Marvel movies (Fox, etc.) in "A:SW" (including the 3 Spideys) and after the dust settles from that, we'll probably be back to something similar to the Sacred Timeline again and we finally say "Goodbye" to the previous iterations of those characters, like Hugh's Wolverine, the older Spidey's, the older Prof. X's and Magnetos, etc. (well, maybe not mutants in "A:SW" - we'll see).

I don't know, but that just seems like a very organic way to deal with everything that has happened and set a future path for the MCU.

The Raimi films are the only Spider-Man movies I return to regularly. Didn’t like either TASM movie. I’ve only seen both of them once and I have no interest in rewatching them. Garfield was cool though. New ones are okay, but there is something about Holland that irritates me.

Ironically, I bet the Joker sequel will have more impact on any potential Spiderverse series moving forward than anything. Sony needs better ideas than Madame Web 🦬 💩.

I'd much rather see a Spider-Man Clone saga with Andrew G, Spider-Man Blue sequel with Toby, and the Venom saga PROPERLY play out with Tom. Give me a 2099 for good measure!

...matter of fact- make THIS the Madame Web story! Call it: Web of Spider-Man.

@Reeds2Much - @Reeds2Much - He did not phone it in. He's just being more emotionally reserved as his Peter/Spider-Man like he always was. He just seems more wooden in comparison cause the other one are usually more big and emotional at more points in time. But points like him stopping the glider or his discussion with Holland after Mays death tell me he wasn't phoning it in at all. Is he the best performance in the movie? No absolutely not. But I'm sure he will be..

I'm gonna be mean, and I'm not trying to be but... His career basically died after Spider-Man 3. Not because he can't act but because there's been a lot of rumors about his onset conduct and overall attitude (so much so Joe Manganiello was allegedly offered $100 to punch him while shooting the fight scene). So there's really no surprise he'd be game for more. It's the most acting he'd get to do for a while. His comeback in Babylon seems to have fizzled and it doesn't sound like anyone is knocking his door down to offer him work. So yeah, I'm not surprised he'd come running to do a Spider-Man 4
