Sony Has A Seven-Year Plan For SPIDER-MAN Spinoffs On The Big Screen - And On Television!

It seems the success of Venom and Into The Spider-Verse has encouraged Sony Pictures to place even more focus on its roster of Spider-Man characters, and there are plans for both the big and small screens.

We knew the recent box office successes of both Venom and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse would most likely prompt Sony to renew its focus on Spidey-related projects, and it looks like the studio is now forging full steam ahead.

While speaking to Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra and Sony Television chairman Mike Hopkins revealed that the studio has “the next seven or eight years" mapped out as it pertains to its stable of Marvel characters, on both film and TV. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop,” explains Vinciquerra.

Sony already has Morbius in development and a Venom sequel is also on the cards along with the likes of Silver and Black and several other rumored projects, but with “900 Spider-Man-adjacent characters” to work with, it sounds like they may only be scratching the surface.

Hopkins goes on to tease an immanent announcement, and a mysterious partner that's working with the studio on the TV side of things.

“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP. So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto…I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to working with a partner to make that happen.”

Some potentially exciting stuff on the horizon, then - although it remains to be seen how long fans are willing to stay on board with a shared Spider-Man universe without The Webhead himself!

It's the price we pay to have Spider-Man in the MCU. We got the FF & X-Men back. I can live with this.

I can ignore the likes of “Venom” and hope for more excellent animated Spider-man films that actually use the character.

@Chewtoy - I'd rather see more animated movies from Sony than live action films.

...As long as I can keep Holland in the MCU, then you can have Black Cat... you monsters.

Sony needs to make sure these films are more like Spider-Verse and less like Venom. Stop hiring shitty writers and directors for these projects.

A Spider-Ham and/or Peni Parker TV show could be a hit, tbh.

@KWilly - I don't believe that Sony can do animated Spiderman for TV. I believe that is still Marvel's. needs fact checked though. Haha

@Manmarvel - I’d say you’re correct. Ultimate, and Spectacular Spider Man ran after the Raimi movies. He also appeared in Avengers EMH

I still think Into the Spiderverse was a massive fluke and Sony cannot expect that kind of success again. And given their track record, and the fact that Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are all intimately entrenched with all of this, and Sony's looking to oversaturate the [frick] out of Spider-Man market. MCU Spidey combined with animated Spider-Man films may be one thing, but continuously throwing shlocky spinoffs and TV shows is not going to help them at all.

Personally, I just hope that they go bankrupt and get bought out by Marvel before they can do any real damage. Do not trust these people.

I hate Sony for this so [frick]ing much.

@Shroombeast - The worst thing about all of this is that they're just taking characters that could be better used in the MCU against the ACTUAL live-action Spidey. And if Sony casts their own live-action Spider-Man separate just for their shitty Sony MU, it's just gonna dilute the brand more.

@L0RDbuckethead - no doubt. Hilarious front to back. My top 3 Sandler films would be that, waterboy, and happy Gilmore.

@MyCoolYoung - I'm not sure I could definitively narrow down my Top 3 Sandler films, but those are all up there for sure. I'm a sucker for Funny People and The Wedding Singer.
