SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Voice Cast Reunites; Plus Character Designs & Storyboards
Spider-Man: The Animated Series will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and to commemorate the occasion, the original voice cast reunited over the weekend and announced a new non-Spidey related project.
Yesterday, at the Comikaze Expo, the cast of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, arguably the best animated adaptation of Spider-Man ever, reunited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the hit '90s show. Check out the group shot directly below and read on further for more details about the reunion!
Producer and head writer John Semper Jr. assembled the cast for the event, bringing together Christopher Daniel Barnes (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Saratoga Ballantine (Mary Jane), Jennifer Hale (Felicia Hardy), Gary Imhoff (Harry Osborn), Rodney Saulsberry (Robbie Robertson), Gregg Berger (Mysterio/Kraven The Hunter), and Patrick Labyorteaux (Flash Thompson). Also, in a special pre-taped video message, Ed Asner reprised his role of J. Jonah Jameson and spent a few moments wondering out-loud why everyone was so excited by an old TV show and that he'd rather be at Spider-Man's funeral! Other highlights from the reunion panel included a sizzle reel featuring some of the cast's best work and a Q&A session where the actors shared their experiences as well as recited popular dialogues from the show.
Semper did address the finale, which had Spider-Man go off into another dimension looking for his lost love Mary Jane. "I knew that we were finished with 65 episodes, but I thought maybe we'd have a little bit longer. I thought I made it very clear at at the very end that he was going to get to Mary Jane, but apparently I traumatized all of you. So I apologize for that," Semper joked. "I was leaving that door open in case by some miracle they said we were going to do a few more"
Additionally, Semper revealed that the full cast will be reuniting for a new crowdfunded project, titled Rocket Men. Not much more was revealed about the potential series, but if funded successfully, Christopher Daniel Barnes will voice the lead character.
Semper has also launched a new website, a new Facebook page, and a new YouTube channel, dedicated to Spider-Man: The Animated Series, that he will be updating throughout the year with a weekly podcast, exclusive storyboards, character designs and more! Check out some character designs for Spidey, Venom, and Vulture below and keep scrolling to view storyboards from the first episode of the series: "Night of the Lizard." and one of his first podcasts.
