Shailene Woodley's Initial Reaction To Being Cut From THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2
We've all heard from Marc Webb why Shailene Woodley, who was set to play Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was cut from the film, but what was her initial reaction to receiving the news? Come check it out!
Shailene Woodley is a talented, up-and-coming actress who is best known for her roles in The Descendants, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars, and maybe even more famously for a role she never got to show the world: Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It is widely known that after filming a few scenes, her role was cut from the the Marc Webb-directed film in post-production. Webb has said in the past that the decision was made in order to focus more on the Peter-Gwen relationship, which makes sense, rather than introduce Spidey's true lady love. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Woodley, who also graces the cover, shared her initial reaction to the news:
“For a few hours it was literally like, ‘Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think?’ I woke up the next morning and I was like, ‘O.K., it makes total sense.’ I’m a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn’t like it.”
Mary Jane Watson is expected to make her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man series in the third film, which is expected to hit theaters June 10, 2016. It is uncertain whether or not Shailene Woodley will return to the role, mostly due to commitments to the Divergent franchise.
