VIDEO GAMES: New Details/Stills From THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Tie-In Games

GameInformer recently got a chance to sit down with Beenox and demo the upcoming video game tie-in for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Come check out what they learned and take a look at several new stills from both the console and mobile versions of the game.

Beenox has been hard at work on the new tie-in video game for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and with the game set to release in a little over a month, they've shared a few new details about what to expect with GameInformer. The entire game is said to be a complete revamp when compared to their previous titles.

One of the major improvements they've made will be web swinging around the city. Unlike the previous games where web swinging is accomplished by holding down a specific button, this time the player will need to alternate between the left and right triggers to navigate Spidey around the city. Holding a trigger to the left or right will move you into that direction. To increase speed, the player will need to alternate between left and right web shots at a quicker pace. Timing will be key.

In a brief description of the demo, it was confirmed that Peter Parker, as a civilian, will be a playable character on several missions. "He’s there to propel the plot along; when it’s time to fight or save people, he’ll need to don his costume." The scene that was described was Peter running into Harry Osborn at a private fund-raising event hosted by the Fisks.

The biggest addition to the game will be the new "Hero or Menace" system. The system is set to reward players for stopping crimes or punishing them for failing or not responding. When missions are successfully completed, Spider-Man's bravery and acumen will be recognized through special segments on the Bugle Channel, hosted by Whitney Chang. However, if missions are failed, J. Jonah Jameson himself will take over the airwaves to tear Spidey a new one. As players accumulate more acclaim or notoriety, they'll be treated differently by civilians. Be a hero and they'll clap and cheer for you endlessly, but be seen as a menace, and they'll run away screaming in terror. In addition to that, Oscorp drones will also be sent after you and your stats will be penalized.

Check out several stills from both the console and mobile versions of the game below and catch GameInformer's full coverage of the game HERE.

Pick up The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, iOS, Android, Nintendo 3DS, and Microsoft Windows on April 29, 2014.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features:
Director: Marc Webb
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn
Sally Field as May Parker
Campbell Scott as Richard Parker
Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker
Colm Feore as Donald Menken
Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino
Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn
Marton Csokas as Dr.Kafka
B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe
Martin Sheen as Ben Parker
Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson
Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy
Felicity Jones in an unspecified role

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014.

[frick] you Beenox. Take some lessons from Rocksteady.

Love Spider-man, hate your games.

If the web swinging is anything like Ultimate Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2 The Game then it doesn't need to take lessons from Rocksteady.

Movie tie in games are bad but the only good one was in fact Spider-Man 2.. it was amazing. The Wolverine Origins game was ok and it was 10 times better than the movie.

Please don't f*** this up again Beenox please for once listen to the fans and bring back the swinging mechanics from 10 years ago. Assholes.

The first ASM game was actually pretty good. The combat was skill-based and challenging, though obviously a less-polished version of Arkham combat. The stealth was not bad (but a little too easy considering Spidey can crawl on ceilings where enemies rarely look). The big boss battles were fun and hectic. My only major problem was the webswinging.

So now I have one rule about Spider-Man games: I don't buy them if the webs don't have to attach to something. The movie tie-in to Spider-Man 2 had physics-based webswinging that was both very hard and very rewarding. When they accomplish that again, then I'll bite. Not until.

Exactly.
No web swinging physics. No purchase.
No Idea why they went away from that and for so long too. You'd think they'd actually listen to the fans at least ONCE.

Seriously? Graphics don't make a good game. It's not like those graphics suck either it looks like any other game for its type and scale.
Spider-Man 2 the Movie Game had bleh graphics for its time and it was still amazing.

@Littledanglything

You're damn right about SM 2 swinging mechanics...IMO THAT is still the best SM game. Agreed graphics don't necessarily make a good game...but If they expect me to pay the same price as Arkham Knight for it....they better look like they at least put some effort into them. All Beenox SM games have sucked IMO.

@Nikgrid

Yea I can agree with that "if a game has half assed graphics it better not be full price" part.
Yea Beenox just hasn't done anything decent with Spider-Man Treyarch was going places with Spider-Man 2 but kinda took a step back with Spider-Man 3.
Who the hell made Ultimate Spider-Man for that matter? That game was the bees knees too.

I've heard some good buzz from this game. And I do like these new batch of stills, but I'm still waiting for the gameplay and reviews to be sure this will be as great as it should be.

"To move forward in a controlled and speedy pace, you need to alternate between left and right web shots. It’s jarring at first, but I quickly got into the rhythm of things. It’s more satisfying to get around, since you’re timing when you alternate your webs, and when you release them to gain and maintain the maximum momentum. "

That's exactly what I thought's been missing in the past few games. I'm glad they're finally getting the web-swinging right. The suit looks too bright for my taste, but game-wise,I loved TASM,except for the webswinging and the lack of random missions not related to the story.Once you got 100% in the game there was absolutely nothing to do but replay the main story missions or web swing.I'm actually looking forward to this game and I hope we get to see it in action, but I'm liking what I'm seeing as of now.

Bitch, bitch, bitch. That's all gamers seem to do anymore. Go play an '80s Atari game and then come back and tell me that the graphics suck in this game. Sure, it's not Far Cry 3 or Remember Me or Tomb Raider (2013) quality, but there's nothing wrong with this in the least. We've come a LONG way in gaming design. Stop complaining like a bunch of 5-year-olds and just ENJOY it (not that you will, of course, b/c you're only happy when you're complaining.) Just don't buy the damn thing if you really want to make a statement to the company.
