UPDATE: The Amazing Spider-Man's Rhys Ifans Arrested At SDCC

Apparently Ifans, who plays Dr Curt Connors in Marc WEbb's upcoming reboot got a bit out of line at yesterdays Comic Con coverage of the movie. Not too many details are known for now but click for what we have..

Anyone who watched the panel vids and interviews with the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday could probably tell Ifans had had a few..to put it mildly. Well evidently the Welshman is a mean drunk if the following is accurate..

Here is the full report from The Wrap

"The Amazing Spider-Man" villain Rhys Ifans was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery for shoving a female security guard before Friday night's Comic-Con panel for the film, police tell TheWrap.

Ifans, who smelled of alcohol, became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing, police said. He shoved the guard, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but the guard subsequently made a citizen's arrest.

"He was aggressive and belligerent," Lt. Andra Brown said of the Welsh actor. "He was... berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America."

Here is a slightly conflicting report from Deadline..

"It was a minor incident involving a security guard and smoking backstage. Police were called. But I was told Rhys was not arrested and was not handcuffed by the police. I am told he was given a ticket." Ifans then was introduced at the panel as the new Spider-Man villain Lizard. If Sony changes its story to me, I'll let you know but TheCrap is a notoriously inaccurate website.

TheCrap? haha, ooooh website war!

I have nothing against getting sloshed, and even getting a bit mouthy...but no excuses for shoving the guard, and a woman at that. Scumbag.

""misdemeanor battery" This just goes to show that any form of authority is untouchable. God forbid anyone would ever sneeze on an authority. Its already known that Ifans has a drinking problem, cut him a little slack and dont arrest him at his biggest publicity moment of his career thus far"

Wow, where to begin?

First of all, pushing isn't exactly 'sneezing' on authority. Ifans was apparently acting like a spoiled movie star, expecting everything whenever he wants it, and PUSHED A SECURITY GUARD.

And are you SERIOUSLY suggesting we excuse that kind of shitty behavior because he has a substance abuse problem?

"Yeah I robbed that bank, but c'mon....I have a history of violent behavior. Cut me a break."

sounds like some dumb bitch was trying to flex her rent a cop muscle and she made a bigger deal about it than it actually was just so she could "show him" ive had lots of experience with security guards at what they think to be a high security event and they typically think theyre gods. what upsets me is that if andrew garfield, rhys ifans, hell any one of the avengers, if they say that someone without credentials is cool than that should be the way it is. the security is in place for their protection to begin with so dont give the guy a hard time when one of his crew is missing a stage pass or some shit like that. she sounds like shes had a power trip.

How do you cuff Dr. Connors' hands, when he only has 1 arm?...

Why can't Mark Ruffalo or Edward Norton be belligerent drunks?
At least they would be able to make good use of the line - "Don't make me angry! You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!"

"Okay maybe he shouldn't have shoved the gaurd, but he's a rough Welshmen who people know drinks a lot, in my opinion they should've expected and prepared for it with his reputation."

No, people don't get passes for their personality traits/flaws.

Some rock star might be known to be a heavy drinker and partier, that doesn't make it OK when he punches out a cop.

Intruder, sorry but imo anyone who so much as raises his hand to a woman no matter what the circumstance is a scumbag, and those who approve of it are not far behind.

@RamonSuarez - Plenty of actors are douchebags. But what's wrong with separating the person from the work.

Picasso was a bully
Pollock was a drunk
T.S. Elliot was an Anti Semite
Hemingway was all three

Does this mean we can't appreciate this work.
I would never want to hang out with Mel Gibson. But I can still enjoy the f*ck out of Braveheart.

cant believe how people have thrown him under the bus after like what, a whole paragraph about what happened with hardly any of the story. its not like manson rubbing his nuts on some guys head. im sure its being blown out of proportion.

MarkCassidy - 7/23/2011, 10:55 AM
I should clarify, "No matter what the circumstance" doesn't mean UNDER ANY circumstance.. obviously if the woman attacked him or his friend or even was too rough with them then that is extenuating. Like you said we don't know all the details but if he just drunkenly took it upon himself to shove a woman, even if she was being a bit of a cow, [frick] him.

@ tea: lol, I know what a disgrace!

Okay yeah getting drunk and being an ass is not cool (I know I'VE never done it that's for sure...) but lest we forget Batman fans that Bale got in a fight with his own family on premiere night, as well as the whole Terminator rant thing, and I presume he was sober for that. Celebrity is a crazy thing and no one here can judge unless you are one.
Intruder are you really Christian Bale? C'mon, you can tell us.

lol, ok we'l see. That second report might be more accurate. I dunno, he just seems like an aggressive tool to me either way.

@SpiderFan35 -
Don't blame Bale, he's just a method actor - he had a freak out because he was channeling John Connor.

In fact, while filming American Psycho he actually killed several prostitutes.
