How I Would Change the Set-Up of Suicide Squad

My thoughts how I would change the set-up of Suicide Squad to be more in line with the comics and more interesting.

Before I start I'm not here to BASH the movie(or review it), I'm just want to give some quick thoughts on problems I had with the set up/plot of the movie and how I would change them. OK, with that out of the way let's start, my first problem was it wasn't really true to the tone of the comics. In the comics the Suicide Squad aren't really the savior a of the world as that are in the movie, their a covert black ops team. So wouldn't deal with threats like the enchantress, that's where the Justice league and other HEREOS come in, they are the savior a of the world. I understand in the movie that weren't initially  sent to take down the villain but wouldn't other heroes like batman,Wonder Woman( who randomly showed up for doomsday), and the flash show up if such a big threat appeared. The suicide is supposed to do what regular soldiers and even Superheronews can't do. They do what may be considered morally wrong.

The second problem is if they were going to change the team to be meta-human stoppers instead of a black ops team, WHY WERE THEOR ONLY TWO META-HUMANS ON THE TEAM. When you look at the roster of the team there's really only two powered people Diablo who has fire powers, and killer croc who eats people. The rest of the team which includes Deadshot who's got good aim, Harley who has a bat, Boomerang who's crazy, Rick Flagg who has guns, Katana who has a sword, and Slipknot..... Who dies fast. A team that would work perfectly against other humans but poorly against powered people.

So in order to keep this great cast of members we simply change their mission. If I were to change suicide squad I would send them on a covert mission to another country say...Egypt, where that must take out a corrupt leader. But their mission fails as the Joker Interupts causing them to travel the world to take him out. I know, i know that not a  detailed plot, but an example of something that could be done that is simile to the style of the comics.

Now for my last part I'll explain how I would have change the characters specifically. To make Harley more interesting I would've had her seperate do from the Joker by choice, leaving her haunted by his constant appearance. I feel this not only gives the Joker more relevance in the movie but also makes him more sinister, plus it gives Harley more character than the jokers girlfriend. I would change boomerang to be more similar to his appearance in the awesome animated movie Batman:Assault on Arkham, where he was constantly challenging Deadshot for control and wanted more respect. I would want killer croc to be bigger and the muscle of the group playing a role similar to the Hulk in the Avengers. I would leave Diablo the same except for his "family" line, Personally I feel the squad should be a family like how they call themselves in the movie it is a constantly changing team of VILLIANS. I would leave Dead-Shot alone,  and take Katana and Slipknot completely out of the movie.

In conclusion I felt the movie could have been better if it was a team on a world wide mission, with the joker as tha main antagonist. If I could pick and VILLIANS for a possible sequel I would want Deathstroke, Mr.Freeze, or King Shark. Thanks for reading!!

Good article man, and we all wish joker was the main antagonist. Especially since they gave him so much promotion!

This movie was based in "The Nightshade Odyssey" Arc from the comics.

And like the main message of the movie is:

A group of people tormented by their inner demons have the chance to change, overcome their problems like a squad and reform.

Then i would keep the same source material. But be more faithful to it.

The Nightshade Odyssey is for me one of the best Arcs of Suicide Squad, because is surrounded by regular stories, like for example stop a terrorist cell in south america.

But the story itself is pretty good:

Nightshade lead the team with permission of Amanda Waller, to the Mysterious Dimension where his powers come from, because Nightshade is searching his brother Larry who was left behind in this dimension many years ago.

But the team is then imprison by Larry who has been corrupted by The Incubus the brother of the Succubus the spirit inside Enchantress so the Incubus take the Succubus from Enchantress body and give it to Eve (Nightshade) his sister to breed with her. But The Squad breaks free from their restraints, Eve escapes Incubus’ influence, Deadshot kills Incubus and they are all rescue from the Nightshade Land with the help of Shade, the Changing Man.

-----------------------

So how we take this bizarre story and give it some sense?

Dr. June Moone was possessed by the Succubus, she end up being part of the Suicide Squad Amanda Waller has form.

Along the Squad is Deathshot, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, Katana, Lashina and Nightshade.

How the threat is a mystical one, then the Squad needs to have at less 3 characters who are powerful enough to take it down. El Diablo has mystical powers, Katana has a mystical weapon like Vixen had, Lashina is [frick]ing immortal and Nightshade can built from shadows anything.

So there you go.

If Harley Quinn dont adds anything to the movie and you would do a disservice to both Harley and the Joker, then dont put them like a bait for fans.

Now what you do?

Pretty Simple, The Incubus is reborn, open a portal to his world The Nighshade Land and take Enchantress his sister with him, with the plan to breed with her and make a body for his father who will them destroy the world.

The Squad then is send by Amanda Waller to rescue Enchantress and destroy The Incubus.

Nightshade then develops a relationship of father/daughter with Deathshot, because she would be a sort of young problematic kid who is seduced by her dark powers and there you go.

A movie about how a bunch of bad guys are send to hell, to try to the save the world or dying trying to do so (Lashina cant die).

This would make the movie really more interesting, because we would have the Nightshade land something never seen before.

This team lead by Rick Flag who this time is only seeking to save Dr. June Moone from this hell would have to survive in hostile territory, full of strange shit.

But for this to work, we would make a Flashbacks linear story, if that makes sense, where we would see the past from the characters while some events trigger them. Avoiding a stupid 15 minutes teaser.

This for me would be a more crazy and unique story.

Because is clear, for Warner a serious and dark story of how they have to chase The Joker or kill some terrorist cell doesnt work.

@AleSir19 - Without Harley Quinn or Joker this movie wouldn't have ever been made.

@kong - I know but sadly Harley Quinn dont add anything to the story, the same with the Joker, they are only a bait for stupid fans, who believed The Joker would be the main villain.

When clearly he wasnt, because Enchantress was in every [frick]ing poster.

At the end, is really difficult to create a movie around Harley Quinn, the Joker and the Suicide Squad.

Because then you would lost what really matter, the Squad.

This movie should be about the Suicide Squad and their members, the interaction, that is what i want to see, not a movie about Harley Quinn giving "one liners", acting crazy and the Joker being there and here doing shit who doesnt have anything to do with the main plot.

Is like Guardians of the Galaxy, in that movie James Gunn understood what kind of risk he needed to do and only give a small screen time to Thanos, maybe that underdevelop Gamora.

But in that way we got focus in a lot of great interactions between the members of the team.

What i am trying to say is: Dont play dirty.

Because the Joker and Harley Quinn for example didnt add anything to this movie, and i am pretty sure that the only way that could work is send the Squad againts the Joker and even then doesnt make any sense, because he isnt dangerous and for that shit is Batman.

@AleSir19 - "At the end, is really difficult to create a movie around Harley Quinn, the Joker and the Suicide Squad. "

I don't see how. Harley and the Joker added a lot to this movie. If you take Harley and the Joker completely out of Suicide Squad you got like 15 minutes of footage. You can make any character work, and this movie made both work.

It's not Suicide Squad's fault people came in expecting Joker as the villain. To develop Harley's character you need Joker. It's simple as that. Harley was great in this film, and served her purpose.

@kong - I see Suicide Squad knowing what i was getting into.

Sadly the movie doesnt work in any level and sadly the reason why David Ayer put both Harley Quinn and Enchantress in the film doesnt make the film better only worst.

David Ayer wanted to show how this people with a lot of problems, had the chance to overcome this problems like a Squad and reform.

But sadly he didnt do it.

I know that is what Ayer was searching when he put Dr. June Moone story of possesion by a demon like the main plot, when Ayer put Harley Quinn in the movie being seek by the Joker too.

Because this are nice parallels, between the two characters, one (Dr.June Moone) is trap by a demon who represent all her fears and problems, the other (Dr. Harleen Quinzel) is trap in the madness of a Pimp Joker who represent her problems and who tries to seduce her to let her problems win.

At the end, the problem of this movie, is that Harley Quinn doesnt have a real Arc of character and dont add anything to the movie, more than crazyness, one liners and a nice butt.

That along how the Joker side story line and flashbacks with Harley have been reduced to nothing, make the story feel like a messy pile of shit.

Is ironic that the only characters who then refflect the message were Deathshot and El Diablo

@AleSir19 - That's sounds like a very interesting arc, personally o wouldn't have minded the suicide taking on a supernatural threat in a SEQUEL without the joker. And if they do it should be explained why earths other heroes ignore the threat. What I like about marvel movies is they won't show you captain America in a iron man movie unless he shows up later. In the movie they showed us Batman and the flash but never explained why they didn't show up.

...Yeah. Joker should have been the Main antagonist...especially because Batman seems to suddenly not care about him...

yeah they should not have gone up against a world ending event, they should have had to do some covert immoral thing for amanda waller like in assault on arkham animated movie where they are sent to kill the riddler because he knows how to disable the bombs in their heads. and then joker could show up and [frick] everything up for them.

@kinghulk - this is honestly the only time I wanted a movie to straight up adapt an animated movie. Assault on arkham was a perfect suicide squad movie.
