JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Is A Fan Of Jared Leto's Joker In SUICIDE SQUAD

Answering fan questions on Vero, Justice League director Zack Snyder has revealed that he's a big fan of the Clown Prince of Crime that Oscar-winner Jared Leto brought to the DCEU in 2016's Suicide Squad.

In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder revealed that The Joker murdered the DC Extended Universe's Robin (who he later confirmed was Dick Grayson). It was a moment which many fans believed was setting the stage for Ben Affleck's Dark Knight to clash with Jared Leto's Joker somewhere down the line, but that's sadly not going to happen.

Affleck is done with Batman after his experience working on Justice League, while it's been reported that Leto was left fuming after Warner Bros. cut most of his Suicide Squad scenes and then cast Joaquin Phoenix to star in a solo outing revolving around the Clown Prince of Crime.

Regardless, during a recent Q&A with fans on Vero, Snyder revealed that he was a big fan of Leto's work in Suicide Squad, and a grateful David Ayer later shared those comments via his Twitter account.

Despite the backlash aimed at Leto's appearance as The Joker, there are many fans out there who would like to see more of his take on the Harlequin of Hate, preferably in the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad.

Check out Snyder's comments about The Joker, and Ayer's response, below:

@WakandanQueen - Same here, Snyder's Lex Luthor is on par with that Joker, I expect even less from his Darkseid

@Necropolitan - That's how I read it, too.

"I liked him in the part" can just mean you liked the casting, but not anything else about the writing, design, or conception of the character. Leto as Joker in the abstract could have been amazing (similar, I think, to Ed Norton as Banner), but if it completely falls apart in the execution, then you can still say "I liked them in the part" without lying or being impolite.

Telltale, a small video game company, has made a Joker that's 100 times better than WB's, that's being played by an Oscar winning actor.

@ComicBookPsycho - Technically Leto’s not the current Joker, Joaquin is

Guy who has a twisted vision for every other DC character likes a twisted version of Joker?

Hard to get behind the opinion of a guy that willingly hired Ezra Miller, Amber Heard, and Chris D'Elia. Not entirely his fault I suppose, but there were always some red flags with at least Heard.

He's lucky Gadot and Momoa worked out so well but those could've been disastrous if Patty Jenkins and James Wan hadn't taken over. Cavill was great casting, poor execution post-MOS.

Leto seems like a pretty decent guy, but his Joker was by almost all accounts a huge misfire. Not expecting Morbius to be any good since Sony doesn't know what it's doing, but Daniel Espinosa is a proven director, so maybe it'll surprise and get Leto some CBM redemption.

I mean, it's a shame. Leto is undeniably talented. Ayer is also incredibly talented. And yet, their version of The Joker came across really badly and the film was a huge let down. Maybe it really is all down to the released versions being horribly edited. Or maybe it's just one of those things where the stars didn't align or whatever.

@AC1 - Writing a script in 6 weeks didn't help either.

@AC1 - I have always said that I applaud Leto doing something different with the character, which has to be hard with iconic performances like Romero, Nicholson and Ledger (not to mention the voice performance by Mark Hamill as well). But for me (and a large portion of the audience in general) the whole Suicide Squad version of the Joker just fell flat. It was different, but not in a good way.

@pclark - Different does not always equal better. I put a lot of this on Ayer who wanted the Joker to be like the "drug lords of Instagram." It might have been better with Leto's scenes that were cut, but we still got "Honka, honka." I just can't wash that out of my brain.

@RolandD - I didn't mean to imply that different was better. It just would have been easy to emulate one of the previous iconic performances, so kudos for NOT doing that and giving us something different, as unsuccessful as that difference was.

@pclark - Yeah, I get it and didn't think you were. I was just emphasizing the point. I was just irritated with what we got and that's why I went on a bit.

Leto seemed fine from what we saw of him. He just seemed an unnecessary inclusion to the story for me
