SUICIDE SQUAD Is Outpacing ROGUE ONE And FANTASTIC BEASTS In Terms Of Social Media Buzz

Warner Bros.' unconventional approach to marketing Suicide Squad appears to have paid off as a new report reveals that the social media buzz for the DC Comics adaptation is currently through the roof...

Suicide Squad is the last major blockbusters of the summer, and while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was far from a flop, you'd best believe that Warner Bros. is praying that it ends up being a hit.

Well, they'll be glad to hear that the DC Comics adaptation is currently generating more social media buzz than every other 2016 release (including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which was the focus of a week long series of high profile Entertainment Weekly pieces last week). The movie is also beating big July releases like Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters, an undeniably good sign for it chances of success.

Of course, social media buzz doesn't guarantee box office success (who knows what the reviews will be like), but the fact that people are interested in such an obscure property is definitely good news.

Starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Viola Davis, and Ben Affleck, Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 5th, 2016. Are you looking forward to the movie? As always, be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

Good for Suicide Squad because it looks like it'll be an awesome movie. I'm not saying Rogue One won't be good, l just want to see more of the DCU over SW.

@BlackIceJoe - Star Wars has more to prove to me after TFA. I didn't mind the retread story. It was just entirely unambitious and dramatically dissatisfying despite its scope. I felt pandered too rather than immersed in that wonderful world again.

Very much looking forward to Suicide Squad. That said, it's not entirely surprising more people are talking about it a month and a half out.

BvS was the same at the beginning of the year, yet Civil War outgrossed it anyway.

@BatmanHeisenberg - Well SS doesn't have much competition.

@MarvelDCAllDay - Neither did BvS, but it fell 71% in it's second weekend.

@BatmanHeisenberg - Were the hell is doctor strange!? Why is that not being talked about? It comes out in November.?

@Hawkeye47 - It has one trailer and that's it. Marvel tends to release one trailer far out, and then within 4 months of release, they ramp up marketing.

They did it with Civil War. It's a smart marketing move.

@BatmanHeisenberg - SS was beating BvS in buzz, too.

@Battabing - Again, doesn't matter. It's not a meaningful metric whatsoever.

@BatmanHeisenberg - true, but your comment seems to imply there's another movie SS needs to look out for.

@MarvelDCAllDay - No, Civil War and BvS never competed. Just saying SS isn't going to outgross Fantastic Beasts and Rogue One because of this "buzz".

@BatmanHeisenberg - Never competed? Then why the hell did you bring up CW?

@MarvelDCAllDay - This article talked about how this has more buzz than Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts. At the beginning of the year, the same thing happened, but instead it was BvS getting more buzz than Civil War.

All I'm saying is that this metric is meaningless, and isn't indicative of it's box office performance to the degree people think.
