SUICIDE SQUAD Movie Probably Means No SUICIDE SQUAD TV Show

Sounds like WB's Suicide Squad movie put a damper on The CW's plans for a Suicide Squad spinoff series. However, the criminal group will still show up later this season on Arrow.

Recently, Arrow showrunners revealed that there are preliniary talks with The CW for a spinoff starring Bradon Routh's ATOM.  However, before talk of an ATOM-spinoff began, there was chatter about a possible Suicide Squad series.  However, it sounds as if David Ayer's Suicide Squad movie means that plans for a Suicide Squad TV show are not moving forward.  Here's what Arrow writer Keto Shimizu told MTV:

"You’ll be seeing the Squad in the season, but it will be different. It will be a different Squad [than the one in the Arrow 2.5 comic book], and this run sort of helps set that up… Why the Squad looks different when you see them again; and some of the issues they’ll have to deal with heading into season three."

The conversation then jump to what WB is planning for the live-action Suicide Squad movie and how that effects what Arrow is doing with Taskforce X.

"There’s certainly a lot happening in the film world on the “Suicide Squad,” and we’re all excited to see what they’re going to do with these characters we all love, and see their interpretation come to life.

Obviously, DC, they’d rather not have multiple versions of their characters happening in film and TV. Certainly that affects what we’re allowed to do in regards to Suicide Squad. But at the same time we exist in a totally different universe, and our characters are going to be very different from their version of the characters.

We’re just trying to tell the best story we can with the people we’ve already established, and to make the best version of it that we’re allowed to do....
 as much as a lot of us would like to see a “Suicide Squad” TV show exist, in light of what’s happening in the film world, it doesn’t seem like it’s a possibility."

Arrow returns with all-new episodes to The CW on Jan. 21, at 8PM.

That sucks. Would rather have the movie though.

The CW already has three almost four DC Comics shows counting IZombie and The Atom so I am okay with the Suicide Squad not getting their own show. I still feel DC Comics really needs to consider having their own network at this point.

I always thought it would be nice to have 5 (give or take) episodes per season revolving around Suicide Squad, and keep the Oliver Queen centered arc much more streamlined.
That way you wouldn't need too many filler episodes.

I hope they do something like that!

I also thought we were past the point of everyone but Batman being held back for the movies. Supergirl's synopsis even mentions Superman exists in that universe.

The film will be the better version anyway. People are going to hate the Suicide Squad on Arrow after the films hits.

As I said before, the TV Universe will use all the characters that don't make it to the movies. It wouldn't be wise for the DCCU to use every single character from the comics but rather focus on a smaller group of characters and occasionally bring in a couple more. Also, the DCCU doesn't need characters that resemble Marvel ones in the same way Marvel doesn't need characters that resemble DC ones. Green Arrow and Atom don't need to be the DCCU and shouldn't (in the same way Namor and Moon Knight shouldn't be in the MCU). There are also three characters named Atom in the DC universe: Atom, Al Pratt Atom, and Captain Atom.

It just doesn't matter. The movie/TV show will bomb.

No one outside of this site knows or cares what the Suicide Squad is. It will look like another action movie based on something nerds watch.

Also, can the movies please use Wally West as the Flash with Hunter Zolomon? They're both the better Flash and Reverse Flash.

this sounds like a cop out. DC and WB never had an issue having a Superman movie going against Smallville, why would they care now? They already cast a film Flash, which many people didn't care for, because it was a weaker choice than the actor playing the character on tv.
TronVin

@Nivekian

This isn't WB/DC saying this, this a writer, not even one of the creators, for the show giving his opinion.

Well I personally would prefer an Atom tv show over the Suicide Squad anyway. Maybe instead of making a Suicide Squad tv show how about a Secret Six show instead. That would be really cool. You could have Catman, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, Cheshire & Ragdoll. As for how you say some of these members aren't with the Suicide Squad anymore, just do the same like they did with Captain Boomerang. This way the villains get to escape and start their own team.

So a revamp on the small screen; minus Waller, Boomerang, Lawton, Harley. Probably not going to go by "Suicide Squad" but "Task Force X" now and headed up by...Diggle?

@0megaDaGod

They did probably an exception since they know how fans would react if Flash isn't in the Justice League movie.

(Supes, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash are for my understanding those that fans seems to agree is the core 5 that is allways needed)

@BlackIceJoe

While a Atomshow could be fun, aren't Atom a bit... in need for more villans so to speak?
