SUICIDE SQUAD Soundtrack Debuts At The Top Of The Billboard 200 Chart
Regardless of whether you loved or hated Suicide Squad, there's no denying that the soundtrack was pretty damn cool. It should come as no surprise then to learn that it's been a huge hit in terms of sales.
Billboard reports that the Suicide Squad soundtrack has shot straight to #1 on the Billboard 200 chart after moving 182,000 album units last week (128,000 of which were traditional CD sales). This is actually the best sales debut for a soundtrack in the past eighteen months, and the first to reach the top spot since last May. That was Pitch Perfect 2, a release obviously very much centred around music.
The Suicide Squad soundtrack includes newly recorded tracks by the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Skrillex & Rick Ross, and Panic! at the Disco among several other well known tunes by the likes of Eminem and Kehlani. The site goes on to add that, "The album’s streaming equivalent album unit total for the week on the Billboard 200 was nearly 22,000 units, which equates to 32.6 million streams for the album’s tracks. That’s the largest streaming week for a soundtrack album, ever, on the chart."
It remains to be seen whether or not the soundtrack will go platinum, but after a steep box office drop during its second week and scathing reviews, this is some much needed good news for Warner Bros.!
