Saying James Gunn has had a roller coaster of a year is an understatement. The acclaimed director was taken off his passion project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, due to tweets posted nearly a decade ago. After a rally of fans, and the cast of the series, came to his aid, Disney did not flinch in their kneejerk decision, leaving the sequel in limbo. Today, Warner Bros. and Suicide Squad 2 turned his career around.
Following the studio's decision to hire the director, which will stir a controversy among a vocal sect of fans, Dave Bautista has been eager to join the ragtag sequel. The talent, who has shown surprising range over the past few years, took to Twitter to campaign for a role in Suicide Squad 2. Fans have associated Bautista with Bane and Solomon Grundy since he tweeted the reaction. Whether Gunn, who is currently only slated to write the film, is planning to utilize the Guardians alum is uncertain at this point. Bautista has been more vocal than any Guardians cast members regarding the firing of Gunn.
Director of the original Suicide Squad, David Ayer, also showed enthusiasm regarding DC's decision, calling Gunn the right man for the job.
