Will Smith Is Still Keen To Reprise SUICIDE SQUAD Role For Solo DEADSHOT Movie

While it's thought that Deadshot will be part of the delayed Suicide Squad sequel, Will Smith has now revealed whether or not he has any interest in reprising the role in that long rumoured spinoff...

Earlier this week, Will Smith celebrated his 50th birthday by doing a bungee jump at the Grand Canyon. With work starting in earnest on Birds of Prey, Warner Bros.has put Suicide Squad 2 on the backburner for now and there's obviously a lot of discussions about which characters that movie will involve and what's in store for the fan-favourite Deadshot (along with Margot Robbie, Smith was among the only actors praised for his role in Suicide Squad and talks of a spinoff for him started almost immediately).

During a Q&A before that jump, Smith was asked a number of questions submitted online by fans and one
was in regards to a Deadshot movie. "I hope so," he said. "I love playing Deadshot, I've really enjoyed that character. They've been talking about it, so if a good idea comes around... we've been having meetings. But I'd love to. I love Deadshot." That's vague but it still seems to be on the table.

There's definitely potential for Floyd Lawson to take the spotlight in an adventure of his own but with Warner Bros. refusing to announce a slate of movies as they look to take a wait and see approach to the DC Extended Universe, we could be waiting until after Suicide Squad 2 is released before hearing more. Would you guys like to see Deadshot take centre stage? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

I think he did well as deadshot other than some cringeworthy line deliveries but I think that's because of the movie being heavily edited.
I wasn't as down on the squad as everyone else. I thought the music was good and still listen now.

Will Smith us great, but a Deadshot solo? Dunno how I feel about that.

I did not like him as Deadshot at all, but I have been mildly surprised that there hasn’t been any movement on the Deadshot solo movie especially after the huge success of Black Panther. Thought he would be pushing it a bit harder.

He is a good Deadshot though. Imagine him in a Suicide Squad directed by the Wick duo

I'm pretty sure Will Smith's name alone was responsible for half of the box office Suicide Squad made. He wasn't the problem of that film, in fact, he was pretty good like always.

That don't mean he deserves a solo movie

@KWilly - Yeah that, and Jokers appearance

@KWilly - Honestly, even in the genuinely terrible DC Films (Trailer Park's "Suicide Squad" and Frankenstein's monster "Justice League") the cast was on point, except for Cara Delevigne as Enchantress. This is part of the reason why I say a reboot would only cause more problems than it would solve. People want more of these characters, they just don't want the studio interference and films that are easy to misinterpret. If the filmmakers can do that, there's no reason to reboot.

He was a great deadshot. I just dont need a solo movie from him. He would be a good villain in a batman or nightwing movie. Hell just keep him the leader of the suicide squad.

@RancidBane - Totally agree. He should be up against Nightwing in Chris McKay's film. That would be cool.

@L0RDbuckethead - 100% man. That would bring the star power that, I'm sure, a relatively unknown can go against.

I was initially hesitant with him as deadshot cause I was afraid he’d be playing will smith instead of playing deadshot. But I can say I was surprised and enjoyed the portrayal.

Sorry, but Deadshot was a nothing character in that film. The opening assassination scene with him was literally the only point where the script did anything interesting with the character or his abilities. Will Smith still had his charisma, and I suppose that the comics character might have some value, but there was nothing on screen about him worth revisiting.
