THE SUICIDE SQUAD: Idris Elba's Mystery Role May Have Finally Been Revealed

Idris Elba was originally supposed to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad but plans changed and he'll now play someone else from the DC Universe. Here's who that might be...

When Idris Elba was cast in The Suicide Squad, it was reported that he would be replacing Will Smith as Deadshot. Well, as cool as that would be, it also seemed like a pretty terrible idea as it closed the door on Smith's return and forced Elba to compete with a very well-received performance.

Since then, we've learned that writer and director James Gunn has written a new role for the British actor but there's been no word on who that might be. Until now.

According to Forbes, it sounds like Elba is going to be playing Bronze Tiger. The actor previously appeared in Arrow when he was played by Michael Jai White but that was quite a few years ago. There's certainly a lot of potential for the character in this franchise and he has a pretty storied history with Task Force X.

He's also one of the greatest martial artists in the DC Universe, a member of the League of Assassins, and has something of a frenemy relationship with Deathstroke.

We'll see Elba kicking some butt in Hobbs & Shaw later this summer but how would you feel about him playing Bronze Tiger in The Suicide Squad? Share your thoughts in the comments section!

Not surprising at all. Interested to see how Elba will bring him to life.
Bronze Tiger is a pretty cool and underrated character.

Bronze Tiger was in multiple episodes this past season, including the finale. Not really quite a few years ago.

Idris seems like a perfect fit for the character, but I can’t imagine Bronze Tiger in a real leading role

@Armageddon26 - C'mon, you can't really expect a respected journalist like Wildling to know what he's talking about...oh wait.

I really think this movie is going to be meh... not bad, just meh. It’ll be MOS all over again with divisive opinions. But Gunn will be fine because he’ll return to Guardians as if nothing ever happened, set with a clean sheet.

This guy! What are the qualifications to be an editor on CBM? He’s horrible. As stated above, Tiger was in a few episodes last season. This guy doesn’t even fact check. He also doesn’t proof read as he states the “actor,” referring to the CHARACTER, Bronze Tiger. Never mind his desperate attempt to spew article after article

Hoping this opens the door to DC's martial arts world. They have some of the top fighters in comics:

Lady Shiva
Cassandra Cain
Richard Dragon
Bronze Tiger
Batman
Connor Hawke
Black Canary

Any film with a "Polka Dot Man" should probably be avoided and Idris Elba should get a new manager.

@Forthas - Polka-Dot Man is responsible for, like, half my anticipation for the movie. 😅

@Kyos -

That tells me a lot!

@Forthas - Can't help it, I like it when they embrace the sillier parts of those vast universes full of source material and hopefully get creative with them.

@Kyos - I think it could work with a Shazam type film universe. I get that a lot of people like the sillier stuff but I prefer they take a more serious route and quite frankly, I think it makes the studio more money. I don't think it is a coincidence that the silliest of the Avengers - Thor - is the one Avenger with a trilogy of movies that has not crossed the billion dollar mark. Same with Guardians of the Galaxy. But to each their own...
