THE SUICIDE SQUAD Star John Cena Says Peacemaker VS. Dwayne Johnson's BLACK ADAM Is A "Logical Jump"

John Cena is set to make his DCEU debut as Peacemaker in James Gunn's The Suicide, and was asked about the possibility of facing-off against former WWE rival Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam.

Before he heads-up his own HBO Max series as the righteously unstable Peacemaker, John Cena will make his debut as the DC Comics villain in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad this August, and the former WWE Champion chatted about stepping into the role during an interview with Den of Geek.

Cena revealed that he tried his hand at "trying to crack the DC code for a long time" before hearing that Gunn wanted him for Peacemaker (he doesn't mention which other parts he read for), and that he initially envisioned the character as a "drill sergeant, Full Metal Jacket-esque personality" before the filmmaker explained that he was looking for more of a "douchey, bro-y Captain America.”

Of course, Cena isn't the only former WWE Superstar set to join the DCEU, and the actor was also asked about the possibility of Peacemaker squaring off with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam at some point.

"Well, like I said before, I think the DCU is making steps in the right direction, and certainly, there’s a lot of buzz behind Black Adam as well," said Cena on the prospect of reigniting one of the all-time great WWE rivalries. "We’re all kind of under the same umbrella. So do I have hope? I always have hope. I know audiences really enjoyed what we were able to do [in WWE] and if we’re able to transfer that excitement and passion from live entertainment to the big screen, I think it seems like a pretty logical jump, but I don’t make those choices. So all I can do is just keep doing me, man."

While it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility for Peacemaker to cross paths with Teth Adam down the line, we'll probably be waiting a long time to see it - unless Warner Bros. is already cooking up a Black Adam/Suicide Squad crossover we're not aware of!

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Cena and Johnson mix it up in the DC Films Universe someday?

@KingLeonidas - Read the article. He doesn't say it would be a good match up or a good fight.

I mean if it was the comics in the 80s they'd probably find a silly way for them to actually match up. But the power level Black Adam has in modern comics, I don't really know what peacemaker could do.

@ThePott - Wasn't the whole point of their WWE feud was that Cena thought The Rock was a Hollywood sellout?

These comments are hilarious, as if Batman fighting Superman isn't a long standing tradition in comics. I can't stand "Superman would crush ___ in a second!" when he often goes up against Luthor in a Powersuit and shit. If the writers want to, Peacemaker can be a threat to Black Adam. The overpowered hero vs. the human underdog is a long standing tradition.

Doubt BA would even take Peacekeeper seriously enough to use the energy to whoop his ass.

DC is weird to me. When it comes to their marquee male leads, it seems like they either go for Fast and Furious "pro-wrestling" (kind of meathead) big personalities like Johnson, Momoa, and Cena, or they're brittle mumbly Oscar-baity "artistes".

It's a bit like they take that dumb Chad / Virgin meme seriously.

And while I'm totally fine with Aquabro and everyone keeps insisting Cena's a lot of fun on screen, ...I guess I'm just concerned about the Rock. The guy feels like he may be angling to make the whole DC universe centered around himself, and if he's popular enough WB will oblige.

I guess I look at what happened with Iron Man in Marvel and it became a bit too much of the RDJ show (as much as I love him in the role and still want to see him come back in some form). But at least Iron Man is a foundational Marvel character and central Avenger. At his core, Black Adam is a palette-swap villain of a Fawcett Comics character and we've all gotten to see the Rock's schtick plenty of times before.

Curious to see what they do with the Abrams Superman casting. It seems inconceivable that they could go with a kind Pattinson-esque mess for their "art-cred" for Superman, but also going with an actor with a low-brow vibe probably cuts against whatever Coates is writing. Jordan's got the perfect range to straddle those worlds (and maybe someone else does, too), but I'm just looking to see if they tip to one side or the other.

(If my ridiculous construction has any merit at all.)

Cena as Shazam - then yea, that'd be interesting. But he looks ridiculous as Peace Maker.
