We all know that David Goyer and Christopher Nolan are bringing back Superman to his rightful place as the best superhero at the box office and with that combination, what could go wrong?

If anybody can remember, Jeff Robinov announced shortly after The Dark Knight was released and soared at the box office that Warner Bros./DC would make 4 films within the next 4 years in the same tone as The Dark Knight: Batman 3, The Man of Steel, Green Lantern and Flash.

Interviews conducted with Christopher Nolan have confirmed that the story idea for The Man of Steel came up immediately after The Dark Knight when they were mooting around ideas for Batman 3. David Goyer said "look I got this take on Superman" and Chris Nolan liked it and gave it to Warner Bros. straight away. Was this the thing that made the basis for Warner Bros. 4 movie strategy. I think so.

Now skip forward 2 year and we are here. Green Lantern has nearly finished shooting, Batman 3's script has finished and is ready for some major casting and production to begin and The Man of Steel has been announced to be released December 2012. But no director. Everybody keeps babling on like Christopher Nolan is directing the thing when in fact, he is just producing the film at the same time he will be fully focused on Batman 3. So how does that work? It doesn't with Nolan's policy of 1 film at a time so who will be directing if there is no director and the film is barely over 2 years away from release?

Well if they managed to keep secret for nearly 2 years that Christopher Nolan would be godfathering the Superman project which is being written by David Goyer and scripted by brother Jonathan Nolan, then they probobly already have the director and everything is being done behind the scenes. Well at first the rumour was Jonathan Nolan would be directing after years of being in big bro's spotlight. But my theory is directing the movie is David Goyer who is also writing the story.

Now the last film Goyer directed was in 2009 and it was The Unborn, a horror flick. The last comic book movie he directed was Blade: Trinity which wasn't up to par with the other 2 Blade's in my opinion but that was before he hooked up and witnessed the magic of Christopher Nolan's innovative directing ways and when Comic Book Movie's were at their lowest quality (Blade: Trinity, Fantastic Four need I go on). Now my theory is David Goyer is directing with Christopher Nolan giving tips and helping Goyer along the way to become a better director because Nolan really wanted to do Superman but can't because of his ties to the Batman franchise so is instead producing and helping Goyer. Here is what I can see being the line up.

Director: David S. Goyer
Producer: Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas
Writer: David S. Goyer, Jonathan Nolan
Music: Hans Zimmer

Let me know what you think of this theory which you heard first.

There isn't really much to justify this theory

I hope so, I dont recall David directing the new Superman movie. There are certain things for directors are making desperate choices like Richard Donner and Jeannot Szwarc. It will be a great idea for Bryan Singer to take over The Next Superman sequel, and work on the Supergirl spin off.

@Dave Nichols: I COMPLETELY agree with you! Singer must step NOWHERE NEAR the next Superman film. Superman has been in development hell for nearly 2 DECADES, then finally he has the chance to return with a really big film, but instead Singer makes a film so terrible they now need to re-reboot him again! I hope David Goyer will be the director.

@SupermanReturns2006: Wow you are really brainwashed by Singer it seems. How could you seriously deal with Superman Returns?? It was 2 1/2 hours and Supes didn't even throw a single punch, he was a bastard father- screwed lois, erased her memory then ditched her so she never knew who the father was- sounds like a rape story to me. Then he came back finally and tried to get her to cheat on Richard on the rooftop by trying to kiss her. I could on and on about what a boring villain Lex Luthor was- LAND, LAND LAND always the MOTHER[frick]ING LAND. Why not use the Luthor of the comics??!! Or bring in a REAL VILLAIN for Superman to fight.

No way. They won't let Mr. Blade Trinity direct this.

I like Goyer as a writer, but his direction isn't on the level that I think DC/WB would hand over Supes to him yet. I wouldn't mind him the Nolans and Jeph Johns hammering out a script though.

As for Singer, I'm not a huge fan. Having gone back lately and rewatched the X-Franchise, only X2 still holds up as a good film. I just think he's a bit over rated at this point, I say the same about Raimi.

Singer is a freaken hack, he even failed in trying to make Returns the sequel to Superman 2, because at the end of Superman 2, Superman promised the president that he would NEVER be gone again. And then what happens...well in Superman Returns, Supes is gone for 5 years. Wow I guess stupid-ASS Singer forgot that little tidbit despite being a die-hard "Donner fanboy". There was over 70 years of comic book history to draw inspiration from...but instead he just used the 1st Donner film...and basically copied it bringing nothing new to our modern-day Superman...oh my mistake, he did give Supes a freaken kid, wonderful (sarcasm) -_-

I still can't believe Singer was ballsy enough to nearly re-destroy the Superman franchise. I love how his excuse for failing was that he "does better movies with teams of heroes rather than a solo hero" whatever. I also blame WB though...apparently Singer was able to convince them to let him release the film without a test-screening...if WB is smart, they will NOT mess up Superman again, so the next film should be the most epic of all comic book films.

No, he didn't give them the scripts. Jonah and Chris Nolan definitely had a massive part in writing the scripts.

Besides, WB will look more towards his directing record, which is, to be honest, pretty terrible.

Exactly. The dialogue for both films was fantastic, particularly TDK. The "basis" stories for each film weren't really what I would call "amazing." The direction, acting, and dialogue were what made those films amazing, not Goyer.

WB will not hand \S/ over to Goyer. Remember they gave him The Flash, and then took that project away from him, even after he finished the script.

I say let Goyer rework that 'Green Arrow: Escape From Supermax' script & let him direct that, possibly changing it into a straight up GA origin film.

To be fair though, Goyer can't be any worse than Bryan [frick]en Singer. At least Goyer had a hand in two successful superhero films, whereas Singer even kinda [frick]ed up the X-Men...ie- only the 2nd film was "ok" whereas the first film was lame as hell- how could Sabretooth have been beaten that easily? And other small problems with the first film, which also had a lack of action- Singer seems to hate action in his movies I noticed.

At this point, as long as Goyer has Superman actually FIGHT someone, I'll be happy. Because all the Superman films thus far have been [frick]en romance/drama films and I'm [frick]en sick of it. I want Supes to finally FIGHT to finally THROW AT LEAST ONE PUNCH.

As long as the Nolan's watch his every move...and make sure he doesn't [frick] up, then i'm ok with Goyer directing.

What's funny about Singer trying to make Superman Returns ALL DRAMA is that even the drama kinda failed in that film. How is it drama, when Superman is portrayed as a total jackass? Impregnating a chick then ditching her...stalking her...trying to get her to cheat. Damn seriously? And oh yeah, somehow he was able to lift an entire island of kryptonite...yet when he's near just a small chunk of it he falls to the ground and can barely move. Wow Singer...I love the consistency you jackass hack of a director.

People say a Superman movie doesn't need fighting...and needs more emotion- [frick] THAT. So far every [frick]en Superman film has been all romance. I'm sorry but seriously screw romance and drama this time. I want a Superman film where he fights for once.

But the thing is, Nolan won't be watching the director's every move. He's going to be a bit tied up with a little project called Batman 3. The director is going to need to be able to make a great Superman movie on his own. David Goyer has done absolutely nothing to prove he can. In fact, quite the opposite.

@InTylerWeTrust: Well, you've probably seen more Goyer films than I have...so I'll take your word for it. And if that is indeed true about him...then I'm worried. This Superman project will be one of DC's most important ones simply because- THEY CANNOT [frick] UP ANOTHER SUPERMAN FILM. I mean, Superman was already in a really bad place for the past decade or so in terms of films...Superman Returns didn't help him and in fact may have actually hurt him. If they have Goyer [frick] this film up even worse than the last Superman film, then that's it. WB has gotta get their act together.
