JURASSIC WORLD 2 Director Juan Antonia Bayona Hopes To Helm MAN OF STEEL Sequel
We still don't know what's happening with the Man of Steel sequel, but Jurassic World 2 director Juan Antonia Bayona has now thrown his name into the hat to take over Superman's solo adventures.
During a Reddit Q&A earlier today, A Monster Calls director Juan Antonia Bayona was asked about his dream film, and surprisingly (given how many acclaimed directors appear to scoff at the prospect of helming a superhero movie) he chose Superman. Will it happen? Well, with Jurassic World 2 in the pipeline, he's going to be busy for a while, but Warner Bros. might just want some fresh blood.
"The first movie I saw in my life was Superman. I was three years old. The first memory I had was Christopher Reeve flying in the suit. Directing a Superman film would be great," he revealed. "I always wanted to be Superman. That's the film that made me want to become a director." Later in the Q&A, the filmmaker added that the 1978 original was, "the first one I saw in my life and defines my whole career." Superman clearly means a lot to him then, so it would be great to see him get a chance with the hero. Ultimately, that will depend on whether Zack Snyder returns for Man of Steel 2!
The character's franchise wouldn't suffer from having some fresh blood behind the camera, and a superfan (no pun intended) like Bayona working on it would be no bad thing. Before that, Henry Cavill's Superman will return in Justice League, so we'll have to wait and see how that sets up his future.
