Greg Beeman from his Beaming Beeman blog:

Dearest fans -

Just wanted to blast off some news that makes me very happy.

A few weeks ago, completely out of the blue, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson called me and asked if I was available to direct the series finale of SMALLVILLE. I was and... After doing a couple of backflips... I gladly said yes!

I sometimes feel that I must have done something very good in a past life - because, more often than not, things go my way in this one. Ever since leaving SMALLVILLE, now almost six years ago - I always had a dream to complete the series. I really love the show and the cast and the crew.

When I left the show after season 5 I begged Miles and Al to remember me for the finale episode whenever it came time to do it. But they left as well, and life went on, and then SMALLVILLE went on and on and on too. Enough time and circumstances had passed that I began to forget about the possibility of being able to be involved with the end of the series.

My schedule is hectic and this business is crazy and the nature of my work, in general, is that I never know what I'm going to be working on at any given time. Besides, at this point, it was completely out of my control - Kelly and Brian make all the decisions - and I had no idea what they were thinking.. Sooo -- after finishing the season 9 finale last year, I resolved within myself that that was probably the final episode of SMALLVILLE I would ever do. I was really happy to have returned to do the season 9 finale and to have, what I thought was one last time with my old family.

But fate is a funny thing. There were some other projects I was pushing on to get going in January and, try as I might, they just weren't happening. That's the TV business. So - literally on the day that I was getting into a frustrated acceptance about not getting what I wanted - the phone rang and it was Kelly and Brian!

I really want to tip my hat to them. As, I'm sure all you SMALLVILLE fans agree, this season 10 has been really exciting. Every SMALLVILLE fan I know says that the series is coming to a great conclusion and all of the characters and arcs are moving into position perfectly. Kelly and Brian have certainly steered the ship masterfully.

Having said all that - and even though I will start shooting relatively soon - I don't know anything about the script yet or how it will be presented by the CW. I'm sure it will be great though!!!

Also - As I'm sure you have all heard by now. my good friend, Michael Rosenbaum has just announced that he will be back for the finale as well. So - the cosmos is moving in perfect synchronicity. We have talked and we are both really excited to reunite. He really wants to do the right thing for the fans! It all just feels so right! The old gang will be together again. I am happy.

Thank you to all who have supported and followed me over the years! I promise I will do everything within my power to make this series finale' great!!!! You guys deserve it!

Color me overwhelmed -

Greg Beeman

P.S. -- As announced by the CW - The series finale will be done as a two parter. As of this moment James Marshall will be directing the first half and I the second. James and I are soul-brothers. Also, James and I co-directed once before, in season 3 on an episode entitled HEREAFTER. About halfway through shooting I got pneumonia and James stepped in and finished the episode for me. We share the credit on that episode

LEEE777 - So there you have it, Greg's back and so is Michael as Lex, things haven't looked so sweet for Smallville since the early years. The finale will air on May 13 CW. Thoughts as always below.

@ LEE, great find. I heard yesterday about Rosenbaum coming back and this news just makes it better. Glad to see that Rosenbaum got over his Rectal-Cranial Infusion so maybe this will be a finale that people won't complain about.

SavageWolf @ Thanks! An I think everybody heard of ol' Lexie coming back, very sweet and gotta agree with you, having Greg back is even better! Like he said...

Its great to have the old gang back!

I'm glad CW was listening, we needed this!

I actually thought Rosenbaum was coming back no matter what, I'm sure it was all a cover for him to surprise everyone he was back for the finale (after all it was promised once he left)... bet he was getting H8 mail or something poor guy lol.

Awesome actor and Lex too!

I threatened to have butt sex with Rosenbaum's ole lady if he didn't come back.HaHa!!!

They should have had Beeman back for more episodes actually. This past Fridays episode was real good. But last weeks returning episode was nonsense,I'll even admit it was bad with all the Matrixy type sh*t.Now that John Glover is back,it feels like old times now.I wonder though, now that Rosenbaum is back, they said he's gonna be in the 2 part finale. But they said they have 3 episodes left yet to film,I wonder if they are going to bring him back in the episode before that 2 part finale?Maybe right at the end of that one?I wonder if they are gonna flash forward a few years into the future of the 2nd part of the finale.Usually CW & formerly WB shows have done that,Dawson's Creek & Life Unexpected to name a couple. But a lot of other shows have done that too.Burning questions I wanna know.Nice article LEEE buddy.

@LEEE. How did you like that Human Target finale the other night. It was pretty damn good if you ask me.I hope it doesn't get cancelled,I'll really miss it if it does.I will burn FOX to the f**king ground if they do.HaHaHa!!!

JorEl77 @ Agreed about Fox lol, yeah loved the finale, HT needs a season 3, we need more good comic book shows alive and out there...

An yeah I thought that too about Mike, he'll likely have a cameo right at the end b4 the 2-parter, the rest could be dude, I see sunshine at the end of this rainbow at last!

And also agree GREG should have been asked back before this, still glad he's here now, cheers for da comment bro!

@LEEE. I wonder if they are gonna have enough time to finish out the Darkseid storyline before that or not.We haven't seen him since the first episode. This season has kind of went off in different directions. The CW should have gave them at least 2 or 3 more episodes.I think they just have too much stuff going on in one season,Darkseid,The Suicide Squad, the Vigilante Registrations Act,Slade Wilson(Deathstroke),Lionel,Lex clones, the return of Lex.Too much packed into one and going off in different directions.Hopefully the last 3 episodes are gold I'm hoping.

i really liked the last episode and i liked clark was the person who came up with the idea for the disguise then lois,i am sad it is ending ,because they were bad moments and they were good moments.it is still a enjoyable show,A Clark/Superman for a new generation.my fantasy moment is clark going to fortress, badly injured by darkseid who has allied with Lex,clark talks to jor el and we hear the son becomes the father speech and we see a blaze of light and then we cut to apokolips, darkseid is basking in glory for defeating clark but then we hear the superman theme and we get a close up of clark flying to apokolips in the suit ready to fight darkseid with the superman theme in the background playing and i hope we see Clark in the suit for atleast an hour.sorry about the long comment, i am just really excited and i would like to know your fantasy moment or ending for the show and what are some of your other favorite shows,oh and for people who are saying they have not shown darkseid enough well the VRA thing was his idea so he just had to sit back and watch, but now that it is over with the VRA storyline,we will see darkseid initiate his backup plan, which the start we will see in the next episode when desaad shows up,i hope

JorEl77 @ Yeah dude agreed, we need Gold, I'm sure we'll get it too, I'm kinda hoping we don't see Darkseid, only because he'll look lame on TV much like Doomie did, hell why can't WB do a Metropolis special next year or something featuring Darkseid...

Still me personally thinks Darkseid should be saved for a big JLA movie, but thats just me lol.

superman92 @ Exactly lol I damn the guy that did the Doomsday finale! : P

This is supposed to be good news? I don't know about this. The best thing that happened to the show was these guys leaving. The show became more and more about superheroes and less about the Clark/Lana love story.

Jahozafat @ LMAO so you prefer watered down up your a$$ superheroes/villians (ie Doomsday, Deadshot, etc) than good writing! ???

Season 1 to 7 beat the sh1t out of the rest!

Lol @ Marvel! : D

Anyways, at least it seems we're gonna get a great finale thank [frick]!

Please...please...PLEASE GIVE DARKSEID A PHYSICAL BODY TO FIGHT CLARK/SUPERMAN.

For this finale, all I really want is for Lex Luthor and Darkseid to have the proper send-offs they so rightfully deserve.

"As, I'm sure all you SMALLVILLE fans agree, this season 10 has been really exciting. Every SMALLVILLE fan I know says that the series is coming to a great conclusion and all of the characters and arcs are moving into position perfectly. Kelly and Brian have certainly steered the ship masterfully"

@Superguy- Agreed, they already f'd up so many of my favorite characters in the comics, if they f' up a character as MASSIVE as Darkseid (the ultimate evil of the entire DC Universe) then I and I'm sure MANY fans will be seriously pissed.

I still like how this idiot who was interviewed actually said the season is exciting and that Kelly and Brian "steered the ship masterfully" LMAO that is the biggest f'ing joke I ever did hear.

Personally, I don't know how I feel about Smallville. I used to love it...then seasons 8-10 just started hating it. SO I guess I don't love it or hate it anymore...I am just in-between about the show. I certainly love Superman so I watch it for that reason alone. I just don't like how they keep bringing in my fav characters from the comics and yet they [frick] them up or water them down.

That is the only thing I dislike with Smallville. I don't care about the weird stories or such. All I care about is their lame budget. It blows. But hopefully they up the ante and give us the finale we all deserve.

LeeLee, I have seen every single episode bro. I don't enjoy them all, but I have seen a difference since those folk left: the show became fun. While it's true that characters like Doomsday were not done justice, it still better than the alternative: more love triangle nonsense between Clark, Lana, Lois, etc.. For a show with a small budget, they have introduced many old and current DC characters.

And hey, at least Welling's balls don't stink of pretentious British wannabe American stankery... your breath must stink ;)
Knightstalker
Knightstalker - 2/13/2011, 9:02 AM
Has anybody else noticed that the whole Darkseid story arc has kind of faded into the background and the Lex Story arc seems to be taking over? My guess is that by the end of the season everyone is going to have just forgotten "the darkness" (it's not even Darkseid anyway) and focus entirely on Lex.

@Knightstalker- Yep...noticed it too. Seems like Smallville just might f' us in terms of Darkseid too now.

-_-

@Superguy- Geez I hope you're right, optimism at its finest!

@Jahozafat- Thanks man, yeah I don't hate Smallville. I mean i appreciate it...I just hope they do more characters justice on that show.
