As many would know I like Smallville. I have been watching since the first season but to be completely honest the show has been a complete disappointment for the last few seasons. They have had a trend of hyping up the final episodes only to make the finales anti-climatic. An example everyone who watches will remember is, the we wish it never happened, Doomsday finale. FAIL.
I must say, though, that this seasons finale was extremely enjoyable to me. For once, in a long time, I didn't get up to find something to help me swallow the crap I just watched nor did I put on my Superman The Animated Series DVD to quench my need for a REAL Superman show. I was actually impressed. There were many parts in the show that stood out to me. I'll list my favorite things but I also had some dislikes.
****************SPOILERS******************
-Okay first thing I really loved was the flash forward to 2013. This opening scene was really a great nod to Superman fans, even though it is a Superman show. Here is where we see the future Lois Lane arguing with the her boss, oh yes the "Chief" himself, Perry White. Granted, we don't actually see Perry himself, only his name on the door, but still cool with me. Not to mention she is being followed by the true Jimmy Olsen, showing he is obviously her errand boy/camera man. During this scene Jimmy hands Lois a paper with the headline, "Lex Luthor announces his Presidency." (EPIC! At this moment I have to admit I had a huge grin on my face.) Then we hear the famous WHOOSH noise of Clark racing to the rescue to see his desk with the famous, yet absent, glasses left on his desk. Outside the window we see a plane about ready to crash into the Daily Planet only to see a red and blue blur fly and turn the plane away from the potential crash.
-Next thing I loved was Clark finally got the Red and Blue suit from Martha Kent. She left it in the Barn with a card reading, "In case you decide to stay." The reasoning behind this is if he uses this Kryptonian device called the "Book of Rao" it would apparently transport all Kryptonians to a new Krypton, including him. Anyways, as to whether or not he actually wears it is another thing and if he doesn't; I'll think it's total crap.
-I loved the interaction between Hawkman and Green Arrow. I have since "Absolute Justice."
-Okay I don't know why but I really don't like the pairing of Chloe and Oliver Queen. The scenes where he kisses her and then they yell they love each other over the radio just before his abduction just left a bad taste in my mouth.
*As a side note, who else figured out that they may actually be going with the whole Darkseid/Apokolips route? Last thing we hear from Oliver is, "Chloe, they're not Kandorians!" Anyone else think Parademons? (If that's wrong, my bad)
-My favorite scene has to be when Zod attacks Lois. Zod throws Lois and as she is flying through the air towards a telephone booth Clark comes racing to the rescue and before he saves Lois from crashing though the phone booth; he turns around and throws a massive punch at Zod that sends Zod flying through the air. Awesome scene. new slogan should be, "Wanna see a man fly? Mess with Lois Lane and you'll see it."
-The final fight was surprisingly, pretty awesome but all I could think was, "Where was this fighting during Doomsday??" Then I got even more irritated because that seemed to me that they were being lazy last season.
-One of my complaints was I wish we saw more of the League (I don't care what they say it's not the Justice League to me, only the League) and JSA in action. Then again, it is Smallville so it's my fault to have expected that and then be disappointed.
-Another complaint was I was hoping that, maybe, Rosenbaum would show up since they hinted that Lex is alive. Then again my fault.
-Major thing that bothered me is I wish Clark would just tell Lois already. I mean come on, she obviously knows now after he kissed her. So they better just let it go and let her know and no Kryptonian kiss or fingers crossed or whatever.
-Final scene was good but predictable. As soon as I saw that blue Kryptonite dagger I figured that's how it would end. Also I don't get it. Okay Blue Kryptonite removes their powers but not their Kryptonian DNA so why does that work in preventing Zod and Clark from going to New Krypton? That seemed confusing to me. Anyways...
My wishes for the next season are simple.
-If they do Darkseid; don't piss us off like they did with Doomsday by being lazy.
-Bring Rosenbaum back as Lex at some point. Even if it's for like 1-2 episodes.
-Clark needs to fly. It seems like every Kandorian and their mother can fly within seconds of getting their powers but Clark can't? That makes me more annoyed with Tom Welling because I am more convinced he is the one that doesn't want to do it.
-Leave Tess dead. Please!
-Bring back Kara. I think she would've been awesome in this season with the Kandorians but I will be happy with her return next season.
-Enough with Martha Kent as the "Red Queen." That's as stupid as Lana getting some power suit that absorbs Kryptonite and gives her powers...
-Also No Perry White and Martha Kent romance. Oops... excuse me... I just threw up a little. (Note: Annette and Michael are a GOOD couple in real life but the characters to me don't fit together...)
-I want the Question with Misha Collins playing him.
-Blue and Red Suit. No more black, matrix wardrobe.
-Do not bring in any more Kandorian/Kryptonian characters or storylines unless they are involving Powergirl, Supergirl, or Connor Kent.
Anyways This finale was actually very entertaining and I say if you're a fan and you missed it, find a way to watch it. Definately worth the buy on iTunes. I think this was my favorite episode, with the exception of the 2 hour episode, of the last 4 seasons.
