Should we see Superman in Smallville?

For the past few years I've read and listened to devoted Smallville fans complain that Tom Welling needs to, and should don the Superman Suit. But should Smallville's Clark Kent?

During it's ten seasons on the air there have been 11 occasions where John Williams "Superman" score has been heard in the background. Everytime I've heard it I've gotten chills. We know during or before the two hour series finale we will see something iconic, but what and for how long?

If and when the moment comes in the show that Clark Kent is seen in the iconic form the show should end in my opinion. Let me explain why. First Smallville is the story of Clark Kent and his development into an adult. It depicts the development of Clark into the person he will become, not what he has to become. The show is not about "Superman". If you want a show about Superman turn on the cartoon network, or throw in the Superman movies or even watch re-runs of Lois and Clark.

I have enjoyed the transition this season has made and hope in the series finale's final hour we do see Tom Welling in some form as "Superman". But not before. Do I need to see him fly? Simply, NO!. I would prefer a few scenes with him running into a phone booth ripping his shirt open to see that iconic symbol of hope, then either running or flying away as a blur, set to the John Williams score. As this series begins to wind down just remember we may never see a television series like this again. I trust the producers will not disappoint us fans and will uphold the upmost respect for a franchise that began in a basement in 1938.
