Should we see Superman in Smallville?

For the past few years I've read and listened to devoted Smallville fans complain that Tom Welling needs to, and should don the Superman Suit. But should Smallville's Clark Kent?

During it's ten seasons on the air there have been 11 occasions where John Williams "Superman" score has been heard in the background. Everytime I've heard it I've gotten chills. We know during or before the two hour series finale we will see something iconic, but what and for how long?

If and when the moment comes in the show that Clark Kent is seen in the iconic form the show should end in my opinion. Let me explain why. First Smallville is the story of Clark Kent and his development into an adult. It depicts the development of Clark into the person he will become, not what he has to become. The show is not about "Superman". If you want a show about Superman turn on the cartoon network, or throw in the Superman movies or even watch re-runs of Lois and Clark.

I have enjoyed the transition this season has made and hope in the series finale's final hour we do see Tom Welling in some form as "Superman". But not before. Do I need to see him fly? Simply, NO!. I would prefer a few scenes with him running into a phone booth ripping his shirt open to see that iconic symbol of hope, then either running or flying away as a blur, set to the John Williams score. As this series begins to wind down just remember we may never see a television series like this again. I trust the producers will not disappoint us fans and will uphold the upmost respect for a franchise that began in a basement in 1938.

I'd be cool with him ripping his shirt open while running to the rescue as it fades to black. They've showed that he has the Returns costume. That costume was made to fit Brandon Routh, not Welling. I'm just not sure what it would require to get Welling into that costume. It's doubtful that they'd make one from scratch for him since it would cost a lot and just be used at the very end.

Does anyone notice the shield image in Welling's eye should be backwards as a reflection?

I don't see why he isn't flying. I don't mind waiting for the suit...let him fly already! He's developing the micro-vision.

For a split-second at the very end. A blur of him in costume.

Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Rosenbaum posted on twitter yesterday that he's on the set of Smallville so would assume the finale is currently or about to be shot so hopefully someone will leak the answer soon.

I have to say that if they don't have him evolve to full Super status in the finale then the producers would have seriously let down all the fans that have been expecting this culmination!

No. J/K :P

OF COURSE we need Supes in Smallville! :D If they never made Welling into Superman I'll get really pissed and feel ripped off...for the last 10 years of my life.

I personally think they shot them selves in the foot when they said that he would never fly or wear the suit. They became so stubborn that when it became time for him to don the suit they instead made up a new character called "The Blur". I know I know its supposed to be Clarks story but seriously that was done in the first 4 seasons if not sooner then it should have been about Clark as Superman. The last two season before this final one weren't even about Clark but the Blur they should have renamed the character said oops were sorry this isn't Clark Kent at all but his retarded Cousin Stewie aka The BLUR!
The sad thing is I am a fan I have watched it all 10 years hoping against hope they would stop being prideful and have him wear the suit. I hope that they do have him in a full episode in the suit but I know it will probably be just 10 seconds of the last episode. I hope they never do another superhero as a teen drama again because it doesn't work right. The reason Smallville lasted ten years was because every season we thought this is the season they will take there heads out of there butts but NO! The one good thing they did was have every other hero portrayed well. I mean its sad when Green arrow a secondary character is explained fleshed out and then turned into his super hero counter part in like a season when its taken Clark ten years!
