Superman Fast-Track on Track

Our friends over at IESB (like the new site design), have some tidbits about Superman that they gathered from WB execs during Comic-Con. Here's a taste...

As everyone knows by now, Bryan Singer is no longer involved in the Superman franchise. Hence, the billion dollar question is...who is?

First are the Wachowski Brothers, yep, Andy and Larry. The other name I am hearing is James McTeigue...

Here's where things get fuzzy, because I am also hearing the Wachowski's may come in to produce with James McTeigue as the actual director.

Part of me wonders why WB would allow the Wachowski's anywhere near Superman after the amount of money they cost the studio after the disaster that was Speed Racer. But, then again, they did make WB plenty of dough on the Matrix trilogy plus Jeff Robinov loves these guys.

To me, it makes more sense to have Andy and Larry Wachowski serve as producers with James McTeigue to direct after the awesomeness that is his film Ninja Assassin because the one absolute mandate WB and DC have for the new Superman film is for it to be action packed, something Superman Returns was sorely lacking. And there is no doubt that the Wachowski's and McTeigue can be relied on for action.

I don't think that Routh will be back since it's a reboot, meaning start all over with different cast and director.

My dear friend LEEE let us not forget that only The Matrix the first movie of the franchise is awesome the rest of the matrix trilogy is garbage.

We need to see superman come to earth, realize his powers, don the super suit, fly, save lives, fight the forces of evil and die trying to save humanity.

You guys might not know this, but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one-man wolf pack. But when I met shaman, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack... it grew by one. So there... there were two of us in the wolf pack... I was alone first in the pack, and then shaman joined in later. And six months ago, when shaman introduced me to you guys Lee,The Myth and others, I thought, "Wait a second, could it be" And now I know for sure, I just added more guys to my wolf pack.all of us wolves, running around the desert together, in Las Vegas, looking for strippers and cocaine. !

If they want action packed in the next sups movie that means wither doomsday( doubtful after smallville) or darkside. I mean you deff want someone who can go toe to toe with sups. Zod isnt gonna be showin up anytime soon since hes been brought on for smallville too

@set2fall love the hangover reference. look it cant be a superman comes to earth and discovers his powers its already been done plus it takes up to much time, everybody knows how he became superman. it needs to be BIG everything about it has to be huge, if routh stays on (which i think he should) he has to bulk up big time and the fight scenes must be massive with buildings falling down, cars and buses being thrown and craters being made when some1 gets knocked to the ground.

This has major bust potential.

If the Wachowskis are directing, this will suck. If they decide to bring on their old buddy Keanu to play supes, this will suck. In fact, if they do anything but no-show produce this flick, we have trouble.

This is basically Superman's "last chance" before it hits the scrap heap for another generation. They better make it count. Shoulda went Millar.

as long as the Wachowski's don't allow it to be like Matrix 2 and 3, then it is all good.

That ish was hilarious SetToFallFirst !

And oh my gawd i just saw and heard about Ninja Assasin for the first time cuz of this site..... Incredible'!

and i gotta say it.... all 3 of the Matrix's were incredible as well the first was EPIC but the rest were amazing and i bow before the Watchowski's greatness... i am happy they killed Neo in the end. it was right for the story.

And ya know what i also really like Speed Racer.... it was brave and cool. the best adaption of a story that still used all the key visual memories and outfits and personalities we always loved. i had to watch all this stuff on video and dvd and now the computer but i loved the original and the movie was cool too.

Supersteverprime18, i don't think it was too much Lois in Superman Returns, it's just they cast a shitty Lois. Bosworth looks like she is a college girl and the viewers are to believe she has a 5 year old son and is a prize winning journalist.

pick a believable Lois, and amp up the action.

Also, even though Lex Luthor is Supes main villian, they need to either cut him out all together this time around, or make him just a secondary character.

GIVE THEM A CHANCE AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEYLL DO, THEYLL WANT TO REDEEM THEMSELVES..THEYRE HUNGRY TO BE ON TOP AGAIN, SUPERMAN IS THEIR TICKET.

Ok. I've been hearing way tooooooo much uh, crap. The way I look at it. Superman 3 and 4, are kinda looked down upon, via pretty much everyone. They were a joke to comic book movies everywhere. Superman Returns....the story, aside from the kid, was pretty good, and well written, the only lacking was action....so far everyone knows this right? So....the last three Supes movies were major let downs. So like someone up top said....this one has to be epic and pretty much hit the nail on the head or its bye bye Supes for a long ass time. So scrap the last one. Reboot it, and do the death of Superman. Its plenty of action. Its got amazing thought out dialogue, offers plenty of room for cameos, therefore opening mad doors for other characters, and to top it all off. Its the most popular freakin' story in comic book history. Plus, it's the perfect story line to do a trilogy with. The first one, to briefly show you who everyone is, and than have an hour and a half long fight with doomsday, IMO it should be in the style of movies like "Crank." Non-stop, heart pumping, gritty, in your face action. and end it with him dying...start the second with the funeral, everyone mourning, show the changes that happen...show Lex create the clone, and show all of that stuff, and than at the end show superman's grave empty....you get the point. Keep it just like the comic. Hell, I think the WACH brothers could pull it off too. As long as the bring in the writers from the Death of Superman, to kinda sit in, and say "Hold up, your getting stupid." Know what I mean? Anyway, thats how I think it should go.

love, peace, and chicken grease.

If the Wachowskis touch this film it's [frick]ed. Those guys are pure hacks there is no other definition for them. The Matrix was a decent film, but way over rated and even hard core Matrix fans admit 2 and 3 sucked balls. Lets not even get in to how horrible Speed Racer was. The guys got lucky and made one half way decent film so lets hand them Superman a character that has been [frick]ed up more times on film than Batman ? Seriously lets not. Like someone said before if they touch the film at all and do anything other than no show produce this film is dead as will be superman on film at least for another 10 or so years.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry that someone suggested MCG. Terminator was kind of decent, but certainly not great and everything else MCG has done has been absolute crap. What makes you think he would do a great superman film if he can't even do a good anything else?
Inohaku
Inohaku - 7/30/2009, 6:04 PM
yeah, pics!!!

I'm glad AND concerned at the same time about this news. The Wachowski's can definitely do action and bring us a good story. But no slow-motion crap please, not for Superman!!

And no reboot, just move on with the villains we all want!

AND of course Routh needs to stay, like someone already mentioned, bulk up some more and he's perfect to go.

NO ROUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reboot completely... we need a new superman... not another chris reeves copy! And as far as I'm concerned... Bryan Singer's career was over the moment he dropped X-men!

JYCowboy - 7/30/2009, 6:39 PM
The one aspect I hope that is repeated from Singer's attempt is the continuation of story from the first (possibly second) films by Donner. Its time to move on from Lex and the Kryptonian Villians and meet the other threats in the Universe to Earth. I am sad to say but Reboots call for total recasting and I will miss Routh. The others from SR are no loss to me other than Spacey.

What this Superman project needs to do is show the full power of the character and be the pinnical property for the DC Universe films. Cameo the up and coming while still showing Superman's promiance and domination. There can be amazing stories in film without his death. I just hope a good one can be had.

Hey shibazz...id love for you to be uhmm..the den mother...if you know what i mean...you would have to fight the pheonix but i..im good with that. As for this whole thing lets just hope for the best i have a feeling superman is gonna be done right for once.

Set2Fallfirst@ I also have that feeling ...

just once it would be nice if someone gaves Supes the big screen movie he deserves... I mean the first 2 superman movies were good for their time... but it's time for a modern take.

I don't mean any disrespect, but I really believe that this posting from IESB is nonsense. I was speaking to someone at Warners at Comic-Con whose name I won't reveal -- and anyone who knows me, knows I've been doing this journalism thing for about 25 years now, and I'm certainly not the sort to post anything but facts (unless clearly stated as conjecture). I was told in no uncertain terms that there is NOTHING going on with Superman right now in terms of a film. Will there be another Superman film some day? Of course. Likely to happen in the next few years? No. At the moment there is no script in development, no meetings taking place.

Back when George Miller was prepping Justice League, IESB continually posted rumors from sources stating that Tom Welling was in negotiations to play Superman in that film. It simply wasn't true, but every time the fervor dropped, another posting would come out noting that things were heating up, meeetings were taking place and so on. Again, nothing came of it (unless you count a flood of hits from people discussing the situation) -- even before the project fell apart completely. In fact, there was another actor lined up to play Superman.

Those same rumors claimed Al Gough and Miles Millar from Smallville were being negotiated with to let Welling out of his Smallville contract, as long as they could serve as producers. Again, there was NOTHING to that rumor. It just went on and on.

I am a huge Superman fan. Have been for nearly all of my 49 years, and I would love to see these projects more than anyone. I just get frustrated when these rumors that have little basis in fact are continually posted. Not just at IESB, but elsewhere, too. Besides, do you REALLY believe they would hand Superman off to filmmakers whose last film was the disaster Speed Racer? It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Anyway, just my opinion, folks, for what it's worth.

First off I don't think the Wachowski Bro are doing the Superman movie, although I wish they would. I just think it's funny that I made a manip of the new Smallville Superman suit and I used the picture of Neo on the Matrix cover. Maybe a Wachowski Superman movie would use the Smallville Superman suit. I am not saying I would want that. In fact I would want a more traditional suit, but who knows the Wachowski Bro are known for doing thing different.
