When the news broke that David Corenswet would play the Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy, it took no time at all for some people to dig up old, unflattering photos of the actor in an effort to suggest he simply isn't "swole" enough to play the character.
That's nonsense, of course, as he has plenty of time to train and, despite the strikes, it looks like our future Clark Kent has been doing exactly that.
Some photos shared by JustJared.com show Corenswet looking buff and bearded, prompting many fans to point out how much the 30-year-old looks like former Superman, Henry Cavill.
The WGA strike is over and SAG-AFTRA is now expected to follow. Original plans called for Superman: Legacy to begin shooting next January but, according to Variety, the spring seems more likely. Responding to a fan on Threads, James Gunn also shared an update on where things stand with the movie.
"I couldn’t write [during the WGA strike] but I could direct," he said, "meaning working on designs, storyboards, etc."
As for the rest of the DCU, he added: "I don’t even know where we are with everything, as I haven’t been able to talk with our writers while this has been happening. Although I’m very happy with the outcome, the strike was a real wrench in the process for sure, so I’ll have to see where we are on everything for the next couple weeks. But yeah I’d imagine more news out in the not-too-distant future."
Gunn continuing to work on Superman: Legacy bodes well for it being released as planned a couple of years from now and it surely won't be long until Corenswet starts costume fittings. According to the latest updates, the strike could conclude as soon as next week so those might be right around the corner.
"Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas," reads the movie's synopsis. "He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane. other recent casting additions include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Superman: Legacy is set to be released in theaters on July 11. 2025.
