Zack Snyder's Superman Plot Revealed?

As an add on to the recent casting rumors, we have a few supposed plot details doing the rounds. Aussie site Whats Playing seem fairly certain they have the details on Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot. And these rumors have an African flavor!..

As always, rumors are rife with any big CBM and Snyder's Superman(Man Of Steel?) is no different. We have heard that Matthew Goode is a likely contender to play the man himself, and now we have some more speculation as to the story the film may follow. A few days ago CBMer MrDCUniverse posted a story from a casting website, and revealed potential plot details for the film. Well, it looks like they may have been accurate as Whats Playing's synopsis is very similar. The fact that this comes from a fairly reliable source does lend it some validity, since they did not post this as a rumor themselves and seem fairly certain that this is on the level..

From Whats Playing..

...though the film will feature the ‘red/blue blur’, Clark Kent will be the central focus of the story.

In the Christopher Nolan produced reboot, Kent’s “a young journalist, traveling for the globe, who would rather solve problems and help people without resorting to using his special powers.”

“When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, Clark returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be”.

Its certainly in keeping with the young, globe trotting adventurer Clark that Snyder has already hinted at himself. But what do you think of the African crises/seeming lack of super villain stuff?

This is a Fake Character Break down. Just like when they filmed Superman Returns the actors had to read from the Superman The Movie Script instead of the Actual Script for the Movie.

I hope this isn't true and I sure as hell hope that there's a supervillan.

Isn't this something like Birthright?? as long as there is a good story and a GOOD villain this will be fine to me

Once again, this is describing the opening sequence of SUPERMAN BIRTHRIGHT. But don't worry, the African stuff is only part of the BEGINNING of the story, it's not the whole story. Mark Waid used the African experience as a means of inspiring Clark to embrace his Kryptonian roots. It's a really good idea. But OF COURSE he goes to metropolis later and the bulk of the story takes place there.

Since the script is coming from David Goyer, I'm guessing that it'll be similar to Batman Begins where he took elements of year one and some other classic stories and incorporated them into a fine movie.

Also, I'm willing to bet that BRAINIAC will be the villain.

The Afirca bit is straight out of Birthright and therefor awesome. It sounds like the Superman bit is downplayed, but one could've said the same of the Batman Begins synopsis.

this better not be a "smallville" movie, that would f*ck me right off.

if you're gonna base it on a comic how about john byrne's classic "man of steel".

red/blue blur? so you mean to tell me he isnt even gonna be Superman yet? It's Smallville on the big screen, and he is gonna avoid using his powers, snore fest....

Sounds just like Smallville!

It does sound like the first 30-45 mins of a movie.Really hope we get some action in the rest.I want to see Supes throw down with a villain more his physical equal, not chasing megalomaniac billionaires around.AGAIN

It's old news: the plot reported there is from the miniseries Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu.
Snyder already said that the movie plot won't be that.

Yeah, sounds kinda crap!

Any of these =

DOOMSDAY, BRAINIAC, DARKSEID...

GEEZUZ, hopefully this rumor turns to crap! : D

Gr8 find tho @ ROR/MRDC!

So, it's going to be another hum-drum, slow, non-action type of Superman movie. Just let Singer do it, he already screwed up the last one!

Clark Kent as a journalist in Africa sounds quite uninteresting to me.

Yea this is Birthright. I was hoping for something more exciting. What's funny is you don't need an older actor, and Brandon Routh could actually still come back for this story.

does the "birthright" comic contain elements of "smallville" tv show ?

if it does count me out smallville has ruined the superman franchise for me,it had help from superman 3,superman 4 & superman returns.

when will we get the "superman" film we all want to see.

Bring on the Supervillians... screw Clark "Finding Himself" travelling the world... I wanna see some Supervillain get his ass kicked by Supes.

I hope to Buddha you're right. I just can't take another Superman movie where he fights his heart and not any villains...
StrangerX
StrangerX - 11/23/2010, 10:26 AM
I hope everyone is right and we get an actual Super villain. Brainiacs cool, even Parasite could work. I would think with that with the title Man of Steel Metallo would actually be the main bad guy though. Come on Snyder don't ruin what could be a great movie.

@ Banner123, Across the mystic desert, there's a desert that is...mystic.

As for the topic at hand, that sounds awful. Considering that this might be WB's last chance to make a Superman movie, I'm sure they'll go with something that is much more epic.

MarkCassidy - 11/23/2010, 10:36 AM
I'm sure IF this holds any water, that it will just be a small element to the story. Snyder is not going to make a Superman movie without action folks, cmon!
AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/23/2010, 10:37 AM
This could be just the beginning of the movie people. The rest of the movie could be a fighting against Luthor´s Twisted plans and Brainiac or Metallo or Zod or Parasite or why not even Darkseid or some other douchebag!:)... Like in Birthright.
ThePhantom832
ThePhantom832 - 11/23/2010, 10:39 AM
once again this is not a time for an origin story, lets get a good story plot of supes doing some fighting that he hasn't been able to do in the last 5 movies, as a diehard supes fan its time for brainiac, or darkseid or doomsday, treat it like they did in the 1950's tell a story supes can get involved in physically
ThePhantom832
ThePhantom832 - 11/23/2010, 10:42 AM
the mention of the red/blue blur, makes me thing Welling is up for supes, which is fine by me, just do it
Xandera
Xandera - 11/23/2010, 10:42 AM
@ Ror - you are right... it could just be the beginning of the movie and then lead into a supervillain storyline
Dynamo
Dynamo - 11/23/2010, 10:43 AM
@Deadpool
Not really. Any similarities such as Lex in smallville were already in the comics before. It's a really cool comic and an interesting look at Superman's origin. If they base it around Birthright it will be pretty cool.
Dynamo
Dynamo - 11/23/2010, 10:47 AM
Has anyone actually read Birthright, it has more than enough action. Even in Africa Clark takes on an entire army of rebels with machine guns an rocket launchers, as soon as he gets to metropolis he takes on attack drones and it ends with a full on(albeit fake) invasion. I'm sure they'll change it for someone like Brainiac in the end though.
