Okay coming in to this movie I had very low expectations, but you know what? I put that past me, with what critics thought of it and having Michael Bay's name attached to this film, I knew the Turtles were in the fight for their lives with this one. Okay let me say this.
THE CRITICS ARE MORONS!!!!!!
Im not saying this is the best movie ever made. But it is far from the worst. Lets break it down.
CHARACTERS:
Yes they could have cast a better April. But Megan Fox wasn't that bad????? No she wasn't in fact I actually enjoyed her performance, after I could focus on the movie and no how she looked. I honestly liked her in this a HELL of a lot more than the Transformers movies. Her acting isn't the best but she gets a C+ for this one. Good job Megan!
But the question is......are the Turtles, THE Turtles?
Well...........................
YES!!! Don't worry about losing the Turtles we all know and love because their in this one. Every line/ interaction they had with each other was spot on. I left wanting more form them. They were funny, smart, leadershipy.........not a word, and bad ass. It was the Turtles we all know and love.......not including looks, but that grew on me, I'm not a film NAZI.
Shredder was Bad ass, every fight scene was straight up intense action, and he delivered. Although some might argue it wasnt the best incarnation of Shredder, I thought he was one guy not to mess with. I'd give him my 2nd Best Villain of the year. Just above Ronan only because we all saw how they ended that fight in GOTG.
Splinter was Splinter, not much to say, wish he had a Japaneses voice but eh. He did also kick ass.
Oh and all the Voice work is nicely done.
PLOT:
The plot was......weak I guess. Only because we've seen this plot before. They completely rip off The Amazing Spiderman and you'll see what I mean. The new origin form the Turtles is a little cliché from what it originally was, but its easy to accept as a fan. Theres been worse.
DOES IT RUIN THE TMNT NAME?:
No, the 2007 animated film was worse, TMNT 3 was worse. The Turtles have taken their hits in the past and I don't think this is one of them. It could have been better, but its not the worst Turtles movie that's been made.
Critics need to take relax and stop comparing a movie about talking Turtles to something like Gone With The Wind. Now its not an Oscar film, but it was able to entertain me for the time it was on, and it stayed true to the original characters. I laughed ate my popcorn and got exactly what I went in for, and that was an Action, Funny, Classic Summer Block Buster. I'm very interested in the next movie and who will be in it and where it will go.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gets a:
7/10
A classic summer Blockbuster. Thank You!
