NINJA TURTLES Director Jonathan Liebesman Discusses Favorite Turtle & Villains

When talking to Collider a few days ago Jonathan Liebesman hinted that the Turtles wold be created using the blend of CGI and motion capture technology that was used so well in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. My God that is a long title for a film. Anyways this time, Jonathan has spoken with .
Is it going to be CGI for the turtles or a mix?

Liebesman: Well, I was blown away by the CGI in The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I was too. It was in the eyes; that’s what did it for me. The eyes looked so realistic.

Liebesman: It’s funny, I was just talking to Michael about the eyes. We discussed it for like three hours yesterday, just talking about the eyes. So yeah, it’s going to be like that.

In the interview Jonathan declares his love of Krang. He was created for the popular 80's animated series. Krang was banished from DimensionX and stripped of his body, left with a pinkish brain-like form. The look is actually inspired by the alien race, Utroms, but he is not a Utrom.

Without a body, he decides to team-up with Shredder and help him defeat those pesky Turtles. In exchange for his help he requires that Shredder build him a body, which Shredder does.

Who’s you’re favorite Ninja Turtle and who’s your favorite Ninja Turtle villain?

Liebesman: I love Raphael. I think he’s a lot like me, I feel the same way, he’s a very cynical guy and he wonders why they’re still relevant today. He’s kind of like the Daniel Craig of the Turtles. And then I think Shredder is awesome, Krang’s great, but I like the Obi-won/ Anakin-thing going on between Shredder and Splinter.

After reading this and some of. The other interviews that hhave come out recently, I'm beginning to have faith in this new reboot.

I'm also thinking Bay is just a dumbass and opened his gob too soon.. Liebesman sounds like he's got a really big movie in mind! Hope Bay manages to get his trademark 2 & half hour kids flick. That's about all he's good for... that, and explosions.

Also, I wonder if James Avery is going to play The Shredder... You know, because he did his voice in the 80's cartoon. Who knows with these people and their "awesome ideas"

Im not against the motion capture Turtles. If they really put time in the creating process i think it could work.
I prefer CGI/practical effects thou.

If they put Krang in this movie i hope they make him Utrom. I didnt dig that much about the Dimension X stuff. I mean it worked for the cartoon but in the movie i liked Krang to be just a renegade Utrom.
They can still give him that gigantic robot body thou.

Without Donatello the turtles would not have all the cool gadgets like the van, the hoverboards, or even TV that they watch.

Nah I have a friend that loves Donny (He's my 2nd favorite)

1. Raphael
2. Donatello
3. Michelangelo

4. Leonardo (I hate him so much)

I always like Michaelangelo as a kid. Leo probably has the best weaopons though.

I do really hope we see the van in it's full glory here. When I was 10 and saw the first TMNT film I was dissapointed there was no van (outside of a quick VW Bus shot) and no Beebop or Rocksteady (and was a bit more disspointed in TMNT II with the B&R knockoffs and no Krang). At least it was a good movie though! It would be believable now that the turtles get an old early 80's Chevy van in a junk yard and "add" some stuff to it.

I'm still heartbroken about "Masters of the Universe". Having no Battle Cat and no Orko sucked, but the film was just terrible too.

I would say my favorite turtle is Michelangelo, but I'll admit that Raphael is the most three dimensional and interesting of the four. Donatello doesn't get enough credit; he could be called the heart of the team and he's had a lot of interesting stories on his own. Frankly, Leonardo is my least favorite just because he's always been so full of himself.

Raphael i think is everyone's favorite

It's hard to pick a favorite for me. I must say though, Donatello often gets the short stick. Leo and Raph seem to have the best stories, Mikey gets a lot of the best lines, Donatello...does machines. Character wise, I haven't seen much that tries to put the focus on him.

1. Raph
2. Casey Jones
3. Don
4. Mike
5. Splinter
6. Shredder

10. Leo

Oh wait... Casey Jones, Splinter, and Shredder aren't turles? Oh well, Leo is just annoying so he doesn't even make my top 4. Sorry.

All this TMNT talk is making me so nostalgic. I think I'm going to go watch TMNT 1 & 2.

What the hell? I'll watch 3 too even thought it sucked. Animated film was ok... I guess I could pop that in too to complete it.

Well, it is safe to say that we can trust the director to make this movie entertaining and stick to the sources; just not the producer (who we all agree is a douche no matter what he does).

I have to say I like Donatello for my Turtles; his personality of a braniac nerd just seems to relate to me the most out of all the other Turtles.
Also, he is the reason the Turtles got all that awesome stuff.

that is a tough call. Donny was my fav as a kid and he's still on of my favs. I've always connected with Raphael, he's a very emotional character, and i was very emotional. So i'd say Don and Raph are my two fav turtles. they are equal

also, i want Shedder again. he's the staple for TMNT. in the end of the first movie they should kill him off with Leo cutting his head off (stylized so its not too much for kids) and have Krang for the sequel.

"Obi Wan/ Anakin thing between Shredder and Splinter"? He's obviously only ever seen the cartoon. This is bad. I surmise from this that Splinter will be Yoshi and thta there will be no Oroku Nagi. And I think a lack of Tang Amaya goes without saying.
Also, he talks about Raphael wondering if the Turtles are "still relevant". Does this mean we will not be getting an origin? Is this a sequel to the cartoon?
