“We haven't had any of those conversations other than to say, what characters are we allowed to use this year and advocate or request certain ones that are of interest to us. And every now and then, they'll say, 'You can't have that guy.' They don't say why, and we figure out why later on.”
I'll explain in this editorial why I'm glad to hear that and hope that this quote hints toward no connections.
The overuse of not Arrow vilains and allies, the powers and the costumes
Brother Blood, League of Assassins, Huntress, the Flash, Deadshot, Deathstroke?
Do you know that Brother Blood is a major Teen Titan and now Animal Man vilain? League of Assassins, Huntress and Deadshot are major elements of Batman. Deathstroke is Teen Titans/Justice League material.
Huntress is strongly associated with the Batman universe. "During their brief time together Oliver tries to change her cause, and teach her the difference between justice and revenge making her his protege". Batman sort of did that not GA. And look at her costume and compare it to the future Batman costume. We have not seen it yet, but it will surely not look like it was created for Smallville.
Look at Deathstroke. Do you even know what he looks like in the comic book? Do you know he has "powers"?
Do you really think that Deadshot would let himself be hit by an arrow in the eye? And look at his absence of costume. Is it hard to find military gear? Don't give me the "he must disappear in the crowd argument", just look at Arrow or Black Canary.
In Man of Steel, Superman had its costume, a little bit different than what we know, but they did spend money on it, as they will on Batman's costume. Also, the Kryptonians all had great costumes/armors. They showed us how powerful these beings are and they USED their superpowers (heat vision, flight, super strenght, super speed). Will we ever see Brother Blood use sorcery in the CW show? No.
What would be the point of mixing these two universe? Can anyone in the Arrow harm or be a threat to Superman? Or is anyone was written intelligent enough to take down both the Bat and Superman?
The actors
Do you want to see CW actors playing along with oscar winning Ben Affleck, or oscar nominated actress Amy Adams? These guy don't play on the same field. I know Amy had a role in a Smallville episode, but it was just ONE episode.
Did any of the REGULAR CW actors made it to the big screen? Only a few maybe, like Blake Lively. Other than her, just look at the cast of Smallville. Secondary roles go from one CW show to another.
Other
Greg Berlanti was one of the writer of Green Lantern. Some may not like Goyer, but Berlanti was one of the guy who participated in this failure called Green Lantern. So far, Goyer has been in successful with its big screen projects.
I would not mind seeing Stephen Amell being Green Arrow in a Justice League movie, but GA is not needed in a JL movie. It would actually be interesting to see a Justice League of America team created as a counter measure against the Justice League (see recent new 52 stories).
Conclusion and thoughts about the Flash
My major rants against the CW show is how poor the stories, the actors, the sets and the costumes are. Also the misuse of some major DC characters makes me rage. So far, we have not seen random Teen Titans or Bat characters showing up in Man of Steel, but that's the kind of thing that happen with Arrow. Arrow is too random with its characters and has to deal with 20 episodes per seasons which is a synonym for poor quality (filler episodes, 40 minutes format, budget per episode).
If CW is doing a Flash show, it's probably for marketing purposes.
First, in terms of budget, it must not be that expensive to do it. Look at Smallville, it felt more like a super-strenght Flash TV show. Also in terms of knowledge about the characters, everyone must have heard about the Flash. It's easier to do a Flash tv show than a Martian Manhunter or Aquaman show. The goal is to occupy the small screen with DC characters and make them popular. Did people got confused with Man of Steel and Smallville? They did not aired at the same time but the pleb is not that stupid.
Second, you are going to see the same speedster character in two different movies soon (Quicksilver in Avengers 2 and in the new X-men movie). Why not pull a small carpet from under Marvel's feet? It will certainly touch less people than Avengers 2, but the buzz around a new Flash TV show will make sure that people are reminded of who the real speedster is.
Maybe the WB is still hesitant to greenlight a Flash movie, so they test and try to increase the popularity of the Flash with a TV show. The goal is to make the Flash exist in people's mind like a product.
Completely off topic, but I think Green Arrow should use some sort of Google Glass technology with his new mask.
Thanks you for your time, if you made it this far. Let's discuss about it politely.
