Disney Predict $190 Million Loss On THE LONE RANGER; Tease More Unexpected Marvel Movies

Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp may blame critics for the commercial failure of The Lone Ranger, but Disney now look set to lose as much as $190 million on the big budget flop. Regardless, the studio believes that they have only reached "the tip of the iceberg" when it comes to Marvel movies!

During a conference call to discuss their third quarter fiscal earnings, Disney revealed that they expect to lose between $160 - 190 million due to the dismal box office performance of The Lone Ranger. The film cost over $215 million to produce and has so far earned only $176 million worldwide. However, Bob Iger cited Iron Man 3 as one of their big budget tentpoles which managed to succeed this year after it grossed over $1.2 billion, adding that "We think ‘The Avengers’ helped 'Iron Man 3'." They also believe that owning Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm will ensure that their upcoming releases help them stand out in what looks set to be another two crowded years at the box office. However, when it comes to Marvel, Iger claimed that the company has only reached "the tip of the iceberg" when it comes to their comic book adaptations, highlighting Guardians of the Galaxy as a movie which will introduce a lot of new characters to moviegoers. As the studio hold the rights to everyone from Black Panther to Daredevil and Doctor Strange, expect a lot more to come from them over the next few...decades?

Lone Ranger cost 215 million . It made 176 million right now and they will still lose 190 million? so to break even it would need to make aroung 400 million? thats crazy.

It has to earn back twice the production costs to break even... lol

I want Iron Fist, Inhumans, Captain/Ms. Marvel, pretty much al the cosmic myths, Black Panther, and maybe Blade. Though for blade I think he deserves a rated R take.

GOTG is gonna make ALOT of money. Another superhero comic book movie involving a team and a wide cast galent with "From The Studio That Brought You MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS" is gonna raise its awareness at putting butts in the theaters. And with a good WOM, it just might cross the billion dollar mark.

No shit Avengers helped Iron Man 3.

No shit they lost money with The Lone Ranger.

No shit they will make more Marvel movies.

No shit Marvel's on the tip of the iceberg.

So what is new about this article I don't already know? That Daredevil photo got me excited but they never said anything Daredevil related.

A real slow news day.

The Lone Ranger wasn't a bad movie. There are two factors that SUNK it.

Critics, and its length. If it wasn't for the critics, it probably would have made its budget back, but at the same time, it draaaaaaaaaaagged on.

Putting any blame on the critics is just ridiculous. A lot of critics like Pacific Rim and it underperformed just as well.
