Jeffrey Dean Morgan Unsure Of His Future As BATMAN Now Zack Snyder Has Left The DC Extended Universe

Revealing that Warner Bros. is now planning on making Flashpoint an origin story for the Scarlet Speedster, Jeffrey Dean Morgan explains why he believes it's unlikely that he'll return as Thomas Wayne.

Ever since he first appeared as Thomas Wayne at the start of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans have been hoping that Jeffrey Dean Morgan might get the opportunity to suit up as the Flashpoint version of Batman (especially as Warner Bros. was said to be working on a big screen adaptation of that storyline). Unfortunately, it sounds like it probably won't end up happening for the foreseeable.

During an interview at Comic-Con to promote the upcoming ninth season of The Walking Dead, he explained that Zack Snyder's departure from the DC Extended Universe has changed things.

"I’ll keep talking about it just because it’s really fun to talk about, and I really would like Warner Bros. to open their ears a little bit. When Zack Snyder was involved in the DC world more, I think there was a real possibility, but now that he’s kinda stepped away a little bit - I’ve heard different things, that Flashpoint might not be going in that direction, it’ll be more of an origin story for Flash."

That lines up with what we've heard since John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein were hired to direct The Flash but Morgan was quick to point out that he would still say yes if he's offered the role of this alternate universe version of Batman. "I’m always here, and would love to do it." Unfortunately, the chances of that becoming a reality in this current iteration of the
DCEU are extremely slim...

I completely forgot about the whole Flashpoint thing. Sadly it's not happening.

The more interesting thing from Dean's quote is it seems he's confirming that WB changed the Flash film back to what it originally was when both Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa first signed on to direct - an 'origin story'.

So...that's a good thing, I guess?

I was really not on-board with a forced Flashpoint film so early in the WORLD OF DC. I mean they already forced The Dark Knight Returns into BvS, and look how that turned out.

JDM should also wonder what his future with TWD will be.

While I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Morgan play FP Batman, Flashpoint this early on was a stupid idea to begin with. Flashpoint should've been sort of the equivalent of Infinity War for DC. I'm glad they scrapped that idea. FP needs a more mature/hardened Flash. What they've introduced is baby Flash.

Maybe after 5 years if this DC universe still exists.

Isn't "Worlds of DC" the official name of this universe? Anyway, this Flashpoint movie ain't happening. He can join the MCU tho.

I'll gladly take a great Flash solo/origin movie which naturally develops and evolves to a Flashpoint movie, whether that be in a third Flash or Justice League movie.

Flash has crazy potential.

Cuz he was sure before?
He thought that disaster called the Snyderverse would continue into a ruined Flashpoint adaptation?

Actually I would’ve loved to see that

We need a rebooted universe that has a plan, coherence and good films.

Hamada seems to genuinely care. But his mission statement, post-Shazam!, is anti-cinematic universe.

We keep accusing them of throwing shit against the wall and seeing if ant of it sticks?

That's literally Hamada's ingenious plan.

Some people don't want to see a Flashpoint for all the reasons they hate the Snyderverse. They don't want to see their beautiful, perfect, smiling heroes portrayed in a pervertedly extreme way.

But that's just the story and it's just one film. If they can live through Man of Steel, BvS, Suicide Squad and Justice League, they can live through that.

At least it would be a better film, because of the source material already being quite the self-contained, well written story.

And the most important thing is thatwe would have a rebooted universe.

Now who could disagree with that?

I'll tell you who. Sister Sunday and the Snyderverse fans.

Too late, the Snyderverse is dead. Snyder has left. His last film was butchered. It is literally over. Go home. (And I think even Sister Sunday knows this to be true).

Who else?

Those who still have faith in this universe and believe that Aquamna and Shazam! will save it.

Again, (and I think a lot of people haven't actually realised this yet) it is too late.

The DC Films Universe will end with Shazam! All the films after Shazam! are being creatively led by Hamada. And Hamada has zero interest in the cinematic universe.

His new label is 'The Worlds of DC'.

Every movie will be disconnected from everything else.
Even Wonder Woman 1984 is "Not a sequel" to Wonder Woman.

The DC Films Universe is actually over.

So if you don't want to see a reboot because you would prefer the Snyderverse or DC Films Universe to continue, well you're not getting that anyway.

So what would you prefer? A rebooted universe or no universe?
