Chris Hemsworth Talks More About Preparing For The Avengers!

The Thor star talks briefly about maintaining his physique for The Avengers as well as how he's doing that, and offers another update on how work on the epic 2012 superhero team-up is going...

"I met with Joss Whedon, the director, a few times and discussed a rough outline of it," Chris Hemsworth told E! Online in a recent interview when asked for an update on the upcoming movie. "I haven't seen a hard copy yet so I'm looking forward to it... Just working with that cast and Joss. Every step of this has been exciting. I'm looking forward to the rest of it."

The 27-year-old actor has already talked about training to play the God of Thunder, but how is he maintaining that superhero body in the gap between when Thor wrapped and the start of filming for The Avengers next year?

"I'm trying to sort of maintain the strength I built up. The actual weight, and size wise, has a lot to do with the food intake. So I've lessened that just because half the battle was to eat that much chicken."

How much chicken?

"My body weight in protein pretty much!" Hemsworth laughed. "A number of chicken breasts a day and fish and steak and eggs... There's worse things to complain about but it was certainly an effort."

Thor is set to be released on May 6, 2011 with The Avengers following a year later on May 4, 2012!

It is quite the effort to put on that much weight. I've recently packed on 25 lbs, now at 6'1" 212lbs. Having to maintain a 3500-4000 cal, 300g of protein a day becomes very difficult! I definitely understand why he is taking a break from the diet. You can easily consume that many calories by eating crap, but if you only consume 'clean' calories it becomes quit a chore. Keep up the good work Chris!!

I love when someone puts the work in to gain mass some lazy, jealous jackass claims it was steroids. And it usually comes from someone weighing in at 145 lbs soaking wet whose idea of a workout is playing Wii.

Pretty much what SF said. Maybe used roids, maybe he didn't, but believe it or not it is possible to gain muscle and look awesome from a healthy diet and sheer hard work.

But hey, rationalize away.

@SFCamerica Actually i'm 21 & in very good shape & my claim about steroids is I think dead on cos I have a couple of friends who took steroids a while ago.
The same thing happend to them with the arm veins & the forehead getting beefier, & it happens in like 2 - 3 weeks,
if you look at pics of Hemsworth a week before he was cast & look at pics a couple weeks later, its a phenominal change.

Don't get me wrong i'm not bitter about it. Infact I think it shows dedication to the roll, plus it makes Thor look [frick]ing fantastic

Seems like a cool guy, and I'm sure he'll be great as Thor! It's always good to see an actor this dedicated to a role as well. I would imagine that they'll be starting work on Thor 2 pretty soon after The Avengers, but it'll be interesting to see what other sorts of roles he gets offered after this.

damn, im gonna start eating more chicken...chris hemsworth, hugh jackman, ryan reynolds, and tom hardy have all mentioned a chicken-heavy diet when putting on muscle and bulk for a role!

i think hemsworth is going to blow people away and this movie will open up his movie career in amazing ways
Duhdaduh
Duhdaduh - 12/17/2010, 7:06 PM
and nah on the steroids this guy was already in great shape when he got the role, no body fat whatsoever. once youre already at that point, its not hard to pack on the muscle fast by hitting the weights and eating a diet like he says he was eating. besides, he's ripped but not roids ripped

SFCamerica - 12/17/2010, 7:25 PM
@carterg - thought you were bashing steroids, my bad. They don't call them performance ENHANCING drugs for nothing. Like anything, when taken in moderation, the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Sestanon 250 is my personal favorite, makes you perform like an animal in the sack as well ;) the myths and bad rap roids gets is a bunch of crap!

I think Thor is going to be awesome. I say this 'cos of KB and the actors invovled.

Also, the GL trailer is only a teaser and therefore, as far I am concerned, does not really give true merit to the film, so perhaps the actual full HD trailers will be a bit more revealing.

Josh: True, Hemsworth's career(like Gerard Butler's after 300) is going to benefit from this role.
And please no scrawny looking guys for Superman. Like Hemsworth, the Superman actor needs to be tall, broad-shouldered and beefy (but not like a muscle-popping body builder).
