Though we have yet to see an official (or unofficial) photo of Chris Hemsworth dressed in full Thor regalia, representatives of Marvel Studios have gone on record to say that his costume in the film was closely modeled after the historic, Norse attire the character has worn throughout his tenure in the comics. A minor controversy started up last week when FanBoyWeb posted the following information, which displayed the God of Thunder wearing more futuristic, modernized attire:
"EXCLUSIVE: We received this via email with the following message in regards to the upcoming ‘Thor’ movie -
“This Joe Quesada drawing of Thor is based on a Hasbro toy-line that will be released in conjunction with the movie”
If this artwork is based on Hasbro’s toy line, could this also be how they intend ‘Thor’ to appear in the film? In our opinion this looks great!
Those of you who have been following my work on CBM for awhile already know that I have a problem with letting rumors go unverified. In this instance, I contacted Erik Araña, who is one of four Hasbro toy designer currently working on Marvel Studios specific products. The question I posed to him was simple enough, and after a few days I received his response:
Though Mr. Araña didn't flat out deny it, it's very hard to believe that one of the individuals who is directly responsible for transitioning the movie images into the toy lines wouldn't know what he is working on. If he doesn't recognize the artwork, it's safe to say it's not associated with the film.
Mr. Araña DID however say the his Marvel Studios work should hit stores around the same time
Iron Man 2 is released on DVD and Blu-Ray. That gives us plenty of time to save up our hard earned cash that we will inevitably spend on all manner of Marvel movie baubles.
