DEBUNKED: Possible Thor Costume Image

Did the image and information revealed last week give us our first look at the Thor movie costume? Apparently not...

Though we have yet to see an official (or unofficial) photo of Chris Hemsworth dressed in full Thor regalia, representatives of Marvel Studios have gone on record to say that his costume in the film was closely modeled after the historic, Norse attire the character has worn throughout his tenure in the comics. A minor controversy started up last week when FanBoyWeb posted the following information, which displayed the God of Thunder wearing more futuristic, modernized attire:

"EXCLUSIVE: We received this via email with the following message in regards to the upcoming ‘Thor’ movie -

“This Joe Quesada drawing of Thor is based on a Hasbro toy-line that will be released in conjunction with the movie”

If this artwork is based on Hasbro’s toy line, could this also be how they intend ‘Thor’ to appear in the film? In our opinion this looks great!

Those of you who have been following my work on CBM for awhile already know that I have a problem with letting rumors go unverified. In this instance, I contacted Erik Araña, who is one of four Hasbro toy designer currently working on Marvel Studios specific products. The question I posed to him was simple enough, and after a few days I received his response:

Though Mr. Araña didn't flat out deny it, it's very hard to believe that one of the individuals who is directly responsible for transitioning the movie images into the toy lines wouldn't know what he is working on. If he doesn't recognize the artwork, it's safe to say it's not associated with the film.

Mr. Araña DID however say the his Marvel Studios work should hit stores around the same time Iron Man 2 is released on DVD and Blu-Ray. That gives us plenty of time to save up our hard earned cash that we will inevitably spend on all manner of Marvel movie baubles.

Good call. The gloves look kinda gay and don't fit. Thor does not need gloves.

This was plainly not true from the get go. They've brought in people doing armor and everything. I look for Thor to be INCREDIBLY realistic in its costumes.

Fake i think bcs;
- comic look image (all the movie concept arts are with more realistic photoshop look even it's for toy line)
- The movie is with a budget aroun 100 mill +. THe costume would be perfect in every aspect, this is not

I hated the gloves too. And I wasn't digging the boots either. Glad this isn't real.

I'm not a big fan of the gloves or his go-go dancer boots. Thor should not look mod!

i think its lame, especially the gloves. and from what theyve been saying since the beginning, the look will be more like simonson's thor.

it's already been said by Branagh and a number of people working on the set that Thor's "costume" will be based very closely to actual Nordic/Viking regalia...so anything that looks "Ultimatey", futuristic, or not in line with what an actual Nordic Viking would wear is easily labelled as fake...I would expect it to be VERY close to the Straczinski (sic?) run...

btw...I LOVE that "poster"...I personally think any promos should have Mjolnir in them , and not Thor himself...

I couldnt say for sure but I did read recently that Matt Fraction's upcoming run on Thor will feature the character wearing gloves so this image is more than likely something to do with that IMO! :P

yup didn't think so

@ CanadianBacon: It isn't. There hasn't been any "official" anything released except casting.

@Tyler, I hope it's like that! Thats what I'm basing mine on!

That's the one they really need to use, Tyler. Or something close to it.

CB: Yeah it does, but it's just a fan manip that surfaced like a year and a half ago

The only thing we know about the costume so far is that it has a red cape and a winged helmet, that there is no fur on it, and that there's a lot of metal on the tunic.

Nothing esle has been mentioned by any one else that would know.

So good so far, but actually it's not the costume I am concerned about at this point. It's Hemsworth's build and Mjolnir that are the next possible issues.

@ Corndogburgler: I hope your right but I don't want to get my expectations up. Something doesn't feel right to me.

I am a Sith Lord you know. I can sense these things.

And besides, rememember how it was when we were told that we would be seeing Captain America in The Incredible Hulk? And then it got cut. So we had top wait for the DVD and even then all it turned out to be was a stupid photoshop smear of color in some ice that appeared and went in a fraction of a second. wooooooo big cameo

I get this suspicion that it will be just like that.

CHRIS HEMSWORTH OFFICIALLY SAID THAT THOR COSTUME HAD CHAIN MAIL ON THE ARMS OF THE COSTUME. SO THAT MEANS THAT PICTURE IS A FAKE, IT IS MOST LIKELY DRAWN FOR THE COMICS.

It's pretty lame the costume would be done for a comic even if it's not for the movie. It's very dumb looking.
